Last Saturday I saw something happen to a man launching his boat that I never want to happen to me.

I did not catch the make of the boat, but it was about 23 feet long, closed bow, outboard powered with a kicker, a man was by himself launching it. He was driving a 2500 Chevy pick up.

When he was backing his boat in the water I told him to wait a minuet, he says "why" I said "the morons over here have there PVC's in the way", He gets out of his truck and starts yelling a swearing the the PWC riders.

After throwing his little hissy fit he jumps back in his truck and starts to back his boat into the water. He slams on his breaks and opens the door in a hurry. Somehow the truck never got put into park. I look up and see him halfway hanging out of his truck trying to get it in park, the bed and cab floor filled with water. He was very lucky and had the truck in 4 wheel drive, he drove it out of the water.

Well,
As it all that was not bad enough, he had taken the winch strap off the boat!! It floated off the trailer and was headed down river!!! The boat must have been the last thing in his mind when getting his truck out. I hoped in my whaler and raced to catch his boat, once i got to it I towed it back to the dock, he thanked me and went on his way. For him it was like no big deal, the whole thing is really funny now that I think back on it. :D

Hmmm.

Made a lot of mistakes because he was so upset. He was lucky he had 4WD and he was even luckier that you were there with your trusty 11 foot tug, Ryan. :)

Where would his boat be if you hadn't been there? Any chance the PWC guys would have given him a tow after he blasted them?

Re: Boat on the run!!!

I don't think there was any chance the the PWC guys would have got it for him.

If I where not there, there was a younger guy. maybe 23  with some kind of a plastic boat , around 10feet with a 9.9 outboard. He would have got it. But his boat was out of the water and on the trailer. He would have had to launch it and then go get it. He would have had an even harder time pulling it back then I did, I'll bet my whaler is twice as heavy as his boat.

When I first got to the runnaway boat i was going to pull my whaler with it, I tied a tow line and everything. But when got in the runnaway boat there where no keys. :(
The smart owner had them on his truck ring.

So I had to pull it up wind with my 11foot whaler and 15hp mercury. It was intersting :D
