Boat outing Sunday 8 June 2014

Sinistre and I are going to launch in the upper Potomac river Sunday morning after the fog clears. We will be at Point of Rocks Va/Md Anybody interested let us know We will be using the Mckimmey boat ramp in Loudon county va on route 672 off of U.S.15 If the ramp is too crowed we will launch on the Maryland side at the C&O Canal For those into history It's near Harpers Ferry WV Also the C&O Canal

Since I can't make the edit work I am adding some more information http://www.riverexplorer.com/details.php4?id=1307 As you can see the National Park Service also supports the C&O Canal. Antietam Battlefield is also close by Sorry for the short notice as we just picked this last night.

Just got back home. Had to drive the 75 miles back to where I live. We had fun. First time I ever did uncharted water. Sinistre could catch fish in a puddle on the side of the road I'm just saying. He got skills Much more to follow

Not quite in a puddle but I fish hard!! My motto is if there are fish there... I have a shot!! Lol. It was great fishing and boating with you. The river fishing, scenery and boulder tree stump dodging made for a very memorable trip. I enjoyed fishing with you. The marine radio thing was an absolute blast and I am going to push harder for the guys to get up to speed on the radio thing!

Yeah! The VHF radio was a blast. Now I have a reason to use the hand mike that came with it. I'm mad with myself in that I had the coordinates for the ramp we used and didn't think to check the surrounding area on the chart plotter What good is having all the maps if I don't use them Now I have a new thing to add to the launch checklist 1. Check the charts of the launch area and area to be traveled 2. Put the launch coordinates into the VHF/gps unit 3. When in a group, pick a VHF channel prior to launch Btw For those who do not have VHF radios yet. Spend the extra money and get a DSC radio It was really cool to be talking on the radio to Sinistre and getting the weather update that the rain had started at the same time
