Good luck, Vince!

Check the simple stuff first. Make sure the plug wires are in the correct order. Make sure the choke is open fully (this one gets a lot of people). Make sure the throttle cable is opening the throttle plates in the carb all the way. Check the timing and make sure it's set right.

Re: Boat preforms so poorly---Help

Thanks for everyone who provided me comments. I am posting the happy ending to close the case!

The last month I was very busy and the weather was not helping at all. I only made two trips to the shore and finally, with help from a local marina, I found the problems.

First, there were extra rain water in the bottom, the boat was dry stored outside for a year, and the front bilge pump was disconnected. After pumping the water out, the mechanic said there is no sign of damage to the structure.

Second, the cab did not work properly. My guess was insufficient fuel supply at WOT. The mechanic put a rebuilt kit in and then we had a water test in a narrow inlet channel, it ran at top 4400 rpm, we had to stop the boat @ 30mph before it reached the top speed due to the heavy traffic--- already put a big smile on my face!!

Now I am wondering if I should switch back to 14.5X17 stainless steel prop or stick with the 16X16 aluminum one.

I am lucky that I do not have a brown cylinder or low compression. Thanks for all the helps!

BTW, is there a place I can find the original user manual for RENKEN 2688? My mechanic told me there is another company bought this design and continuingly made this model till 2000. Anyone every heard about this?

i wouldnt change the prop till u are able to get a good solid line on your wot rpm.
on mine its 4200 to 4600 so if u stay steady at 4400 might be a good place to leave it. you can try your other prop. if your not sliping it all the time its easy to swap back and forth
nice to hear you got running
