Re: boat project on the rise
If you are going to foam the entire void under the floor, you could do what you propose. As long as there isn't any voids that could trap water and hold it, causing rot, I can't see why it wouldn't work. I have seen it done where a piece of PVC tubing is cut lengthwise and glassed to the bottom of the bilge to flow water from forward empty voids, under foamed sections, back to the bilge area where the pump is. I foamed all my voids except my center void that runs lengthwise, and I may buy another 2 part kit and foam that as well. I have enough floatation, but I want the extra protection in case I get holed at the very center of the bottom of my boat. If you are foaming all your voids, make sure the floor is completely sealed, and use good sealant like 3M 5200 on any screws that goes into the floor. Any slow steady water that gets into the foam could start to soak in, even with the new closed cell foams, although it would take years of continued exposure. Can't be too safe...Good luck....
