I'm looking at purchasing a 1990 Bayliner 2000-Capri 20ft 150hp force engine which has about 300 hours on it. I haven't seen it in person yet, but i've been told it has been well kept. It has a new lower unit under warranty for another year, a new stater on the engiine, plus many extras such as skis, vests, custom cover, fishin finder, depth guage and many more. The Boat is $4,500.00. Does anyone know if this is a good price for this year boat and how many hours is good for a 150 hp force engine. Thanks.

Re: Boat Purchase Help

Well, IF its been well cared for, maybe...but ONLY after you've had a compression check done on the motor.

My 1990 90HP Outboard broke a piston ring and had a lot of slop on the other 2 cylnders after about 250 hours of use.

Personally, I won't touch another Force motor prior to the Mercury buyout, and then only after they made the switch to being a full Mercury motor with Force stickers...was that 1996?

My 1990 Bayliner Capri 185 was an excellent boat...the outboard wasn't, but the boat itself was very nice...so I'd have no qualms about it IF it was truly well cared for (make sure the floor feels absolutely solid)...and get that motor checked out by a mechanic.

My opinion.

The Force is a dinosuar, expecially the "quirky" 150.

You can do better.

First a BIG WELCOME!!!

Now as to the Force - - Go to the red search at the top of the page and enter Force as a search arguement in the Fource Troubles/Repair Sectionand read what others have been posted about these engine. Many would not take one as a gift.
