What does everyone do with their boat registration certificate while out on the water? At least in my state, I need to have it with me while on the lake. My boat doesn't have a glove box. Should I just keep it in my wallet?

Here in South Africa, the boat itself have a licence that you just stick on ..... no registration certificate, but you have to have a skippers licence to drive a boat ....

Re: Boat Registration Certificate

in the US we have to have the paper work on board, along with the license you stick on every year. but for a private boat operated by the owner, no skipper license, usless carrying paying passengers.

What a mission for you guys, must be costly .... a skippers licence is very easy here and cheap, like getting your car drivers ... basic rules apply .... the licences we stick on are costly but I have one and use it on the boat I use ... if the watercops wanna check it, they must catch me first .... lotta fun .. luckily they have a sense of humor ....

Re: Boat Registration Certificate

here in az all we need is the registration and fishing liscence, but i keep all that in one of those little floating key chains that glows... so if it hits water it floats, and if its at night, a spot light will make it glow...

probably doesnt help, but what the heck..... i tried lol

I keep my boat registration in my wallet. I should keep it in the glove box though, to keep it dry. I guess any where handy is OK just so you have it available for the cops.

A question that goes along the same line is how visible should the plaque be that states the Max capacity and hp.

First aid kit - that's something I don't have on board.

So far, I've used the ziplock bag method also. Put that inside a sandwich size tupperware thingy.

The first copy of this year's registration is kept in Davy Jones' locker. It was originally in my t-top dry box, however it managed to get out while underway. The new copy is still in the dry box, but now in bag taped to the inside top!

You could use an trailer document holder. Its Just a light weight tube that is water tight and can be mounted just about anywhere. There cheep and you can find them at any store that has trailer parts.

Not painted over. :D LOL

Has to be displayed, but don't know if it can be in the glove box or locker.

I am surprised nobody picked up on this yet . . . Get this first, then worry about the registration and hp/capacity plate. Priorities . . . My .02
