Thought this would be a fun early spring thread.

Here are my rules, what are yours?

1. If I ask you to put a life vest on, put it on!
2. Don't ask if we can head back early.
3. As a guest you are not required to bring or pay for anything.
4. Sit down while I dock the boat, if I need help I'll ask.
5. HAVE FUN

Oh yeah, almost forgot...
6. If you're female clothing is optional. ;)

Re: Boat Rules

I have one single rule.

There is only one Captain.

Re: Boat Rules

Go ahead and offer to pay for gas. I'll refuse.
Offer to help wash the boat when we get back. I won't refuse.
Offer to help with the grilling. I can't be expected to do everything.
No one gets a cocktail until the captain gets a cocktail.
Never, ever, ever throw anything overboard without the captains OK.

Re: Boat Rules

1) Respect my new boat, just as I would yours.
2) Have a good time, but if you get too drunk and annoying, be prepared to swim back to shore.
3) If I'm not driving, I sit where I want to...you move
4) No, I'm not putting up the Bimini because you're hot or have sunburn. Put on some sunblock, moron.
5) My boat, my ridiculously expensive gas, we go where I want to go.

Who wants to come with me to the lake? :eek:D

.....and please don't fend me off....or cut loose a dock line till I say so. Sit down and enjoy yourself. Oh! I have a list I keep onboard. Instructions on the head use, life jacket locations, use of a fire extinguisher, all hands onboard and don't grab anything when docking.

Good thread!

Re: Boat Rules

If your not looking to have a fun day stay home.
Don't offer advice unless it's asked for
Stay away from the truck, trailer, and boat at the ramp.
If you bring drinks on board you better have brought enough for me!
You must laugh at all my jokes no matter how stupid they are.

+1 on all of these.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but am I the only one who has a 5 minute safety meeting prior to each trip? Where the life jackets are, fire extinguishers, ditch bag, etc?

Re: Boat Rules

After some careful thought.......... I think this should be added to your list....

If we run out of gas....... passenger's need to be the people who push while I steer! :D

Re: Boat Rules

Some that stand out for me personally

NO red blue green or pink liquids, only colors allowed are clear or consistent with Corona, My last boat became the community kid boat since it had dark blue carpet, my current boat has tan carpet and my friends can keep their own kids, I also don't have a porta potty on my boat anymore for the very same reason...

NO eating sunflower seeds in front of the Captain, my daughter got thrown overboard for this...Yes I stopped first

NO Chewing in front of the Captain, as the Captain Chews as well and is in much better position for the return volley

NO smoking on the boat

I like Fireman's safety meeting, I do it a bit informally while were waiting in line for inspection or waiting at the ramp

There are two cell phones on board and they are the Captains and first mates, the only exception to this is my friend who is a pediatric heart surgeon(no kidding).

No shoes, surprised I haven't heard this one yet, I do provide a milk crate in the engine compartment for shoe storage though, once you touch the ladder or step off the dock you are out of shoe friendly zone

I try not to be overly anal about my Boat but it is my only toy and I worked my tail off to purchase it, I have never had any problems I typically tell those invited the selection of life vests I have (in case we need something different) and that they should bring anything they(or their family) would like to eat and drink, I provide the cooler/s space, reason being I just can't keep up with what kids like and dislike. What toy's I have etc.

OOPS forgot one,

NO one under the age of what ever the Captain determines at the time can stand or walk amongst the boat while the boat is under way, This is mostly oriented towards the little ones that get happy feet but I did have to change the rule once when the first mate missed her chair......no kidding missed it completely, I still get to tell her about it too!!

Re: Boat Rules

I'm calling B.S. on this!! How can he be a heart surgeon and still be a child?!? :D

You know he told me what his official medical title was........so I asked him for the idiots version and thats what he told me!! he works on babies hearts, I don't know how he does it....knowing that little persons life is completely in his hands, sometimes knowing that no matter what he does it may not be enough. He is the Father of my daughters best friend and we have become very good friends, the thing that gets me is he always asks me how work is......and I am afraid to ask him about his.....

Had a boating friend several years ago that was a cardiologist back before cell phones but he always had his pager. Going out to dinner, boating, whatever he and his wife both drove their own cars so if he got called to the hospital she could stay and still have a ride home. Wouldn't go boating unless he checked first to see what his office partner was doing because he couldn't be that far from a pay phone. (Told you this was several years ago) I never envied his money or toys knowing the constant pressure he was under. I can't ever remember a dinner that wasn't interrupted at least twice by the pager. He ended up just wearing out and dieing in his early sixties.

I started doing this last year (explaining my rules, where life jackets are stowed, where fire extinguishers are, and how to sit on the boat (illegal in my state to sit on the sun pad, swim platform, ect. while in motion), my smoking/drinking rules, ect.. I have an I/O so while the blower is doing it's fume clearing it's a good time for this. I was AMAZED at how my "guests" appreciated this little safety meeting. They normally thank me for explaining it and state on other friends boats they have been on they had no clue where the safety gear was and it sticks in their minds.

Re: Boat Rules

Good ideas but how about unless someone's hair is on fire or the boat is sinking, keep your mouth shut while I am docking the boat. Nothing is more distracting then planning three moves ahead and you have a motormouth running.

Re: Boat Rules

There are only two rules on my boat:

1) No sand and

2) No drowning

Listed in priority order . . .

I also do a quick safety speech for new guests. Fairly easy on a small boat. "Here's where life jackets are, here's the throwable. Here's how to stop her if I fall overboard." I also ask for no help when docking unless I ask for it.
