Re: Boat Rules

Thought this would be a fun early spring thread.

Here are my rules, what are yours?

1. If I ask you to put a life vest on, put it on!
2. Don't ask if we can head back early.
3. As a guest you are not required to bring or pay for anything.
4. Sit down while I dock the boat, if I need help I'll ask.
5. HAVE FUN

Oh yeah, almost forgot...
6. If you're female clothing is optional. ;)

Only need to add one:

I'm the Captain, don't tell me to speed up, slow down, or yell "LOG", I see it remember I'm not drinking.

Wish I could get away with number 6....

Re: Boat Rules

While it's not a rule, I expect everyone to help out, but it's important they do it right--and many do not know. So I try to show them one time how to cut squid, bait a hook, tie a clove hitch, use a cleat, untangle backlash, empty a crab pot, throw a dock line, mix a G&T. Then they have to do it themselves.

Sometimes it's easier to do it myself, and I find it enjoyable as long as they are appreciative.

If something is amiss, the crew should not just yell "whoa" or "look out." Should be "log!" and point, or "crab trap" "man overboard" "bait bucket over" "spilled drink" etc.

I grew up on the water, and starting with my grandmother, the rule was "never call "help" when playing around the water." Children especially get carried away; they may be playing pirate or shark or something, and they can yell all they want, just not the work HELP ever, unless obviously there is danger.

Re: Boat Rules

1) Respect my new boat, just as I would yours.
2) Have a good time, but if you get too drunk and annoying, be prepared to swim back to shore.
3) If I'm not driving, I sit where I want to...you move
4) No, I'm not putting up the Bimini because you're hot or have sunburn. Put on some sunblock, moron.
5) My boat, my ridiculously expensive gas, we go where I want to go.

Who wants to come with me to the lake? :eek:D

I especially agree with #4, I hate putting up the Bimini Top. We are out here for the sun and the fun, not to loaf around in the shade.

Re: Boat Rules

I've only owned a boat for 3 weeks now but I've been on the water for 15 years so I've had some time to think about this...

I am the Captain and she is the Admiral. You will do what we say when we tell you to do it or I'll leave you on the shore. ANY shore.
My kids must wear a life jacket when underway and your kids are not invited.
If we're going out all day you will be buying either the gas or the food and beer or you can stay on shore!

Sounds like you are a little tightly wound due to being a new boat owner. I can respect your rules but the whole do what we say when we say or I'll leave you on shore just sounds like it would be hard to relax and enjoy yourself with that kind of attitude.

I'll buy the beer and food since you are in control of how much gas you burn.

What I mean by "do what I tell you to when I tell you" is if I tell you to sit down and we're going 40mph don't ask why, just sit down NOW! It's not like I'm ordering someone to get me a beer, just respect me by doing what you're told. I've had one incident where someone went over the rail on a buddies boat when I was driving because they weren't listening to me tell them to sit down and we broke a wave. Never again. My buddies get real rowdy real quick and if they're not going to listen then they can get off. Just respect me, that's all...that's the rule on all of our friends' boats and the rule on mine.
