Re: Boat runs great in Driveway, but stalls on water
Understood...I'm not "randomly" replacing these parts...I had a mechanic friend look at these things and he suggested to replace them. I did look at the link you sent me (See my comments)...
1. Fuel condition. Type and Octane possibly old fuel - We drained and refilled the tank. I only put 93 Octane in the tank
2. Propeller pitch or diameter, damaged blades - Checked...this is all good
3. Restricted fuel pickup tube or anti siphon valve Fuel System Test
4. Crankcase oil volume, high oil level can cause aerated oil and lifter collapse - This is good
5. Marine growth on hull and outdrive - No growth...hull and outdrive are clean as a whistle
6. Wrong gear ratio in outdrive - No idea how to check this
7. Restricted carburetor air intake (clogged flame arrestor) - I've already cleaned the flame arrestor...It's sparkling clean
8. Restricted exhaust system (broken exhaust shutters/flappers) in engine transom shield or drive - Not sure how to check
9. Poor cylinder compression Compression Test - Performed the test...All is good...numbers were between 110 and 120
10. Carburetor defective, or wrong type. - It's been rebuilt...all looks good there
11. Fuel pump pressure and vacuum - I've had a brand new fuel pump installed
12. Boat overloaded, improperly loaded, or improperly trimmed. - what does improperly trimmed mean? I lower the trim when I get in the water
13. Engine Overheating - Not a problem
14. Engine timing and ignition system operation - Gonna check this the next time I get on the water
15. Remote control cables and linkage for proper travel to open throttle plates fully - These all seem to be fine, but how can I make sure?
If you keep randomly replacing parts long enough, it's possible that you'll sooner or later get to what's wrong.
Logically troubleshooting the problem usually gets it fixed a lot quicker and cheaper ......
Did you even look at the link I posted above, in the earlier post?
