I am in the process of rebuilding my interior of my larson open bow. I have designed how i want my seat to look and now i am picking the materials for the bench seat frame. Instead of using ply, i have played with the idea of using 2" thick foam pink sheet, wrapped in several layers of fiberglass with epoxy resin. My main question is would this box construction be strong enough to be a seat frame, or would it be too weak?

If you use a couple of layers of 24oz Woven Roving and epoxy it'll be a Tank. It'll take a LOT of epoxy and be kinda Pricey but it WILL be strong. You'll need to do some Pre-Creasing of the WR to get the corners to lay just right, But it's doable!!! The foam is just the Core Form. The Resin and Glass will provide all the strength in the end. You'll prolly want to finish it off with some 3oz cloth to cover the texture of the heavy WR and make it look nice and smooth for the final finish. You can tint the epoxy to give it it's final color!!

I'm thinking Polyester might be a bit cheaper and easier but that's just me.:D;)

This^^^ is a GREAT observation!!! You could easily make it into a combination Seat/Ice Chest or even Live Well!!! Some forethought and Planning could easily make this happen. U R DA MAN harleyman1975!!!!!!
