boat seat problems?

I have a 2004 boat with Springfield taper lock pedestal seats. Really hard to remove I live on saltwater and don't know if thats the issue. I even purchased a Popit boat seat release and still have problems. On the springfield web site they said if the seat sticks don't use wd-40. ( They're advice is push on the tab and while pushing on the pedestal with you hand.) This does'nt work I know other people must have the same problem because all 3 of my seats have issues.

The contact areas are raw aluminum. That's not going to do well with saltwater spray. Dishsoap it. Rocking the pedestal back and forth is usually the most productive way of loosening it up. With the seat on, crossways to the locking tab.

Perhaps something like armoral would lube it safely?

I use Triflow becuase I have it around because of my bicycles. A slicone spray lube might be a good preventative.

We modified dad's taper lock, and my spring lock pedestals.
Probably no longer meet the lawyer/liability test for locking securely in place, but I'll take my chances.

On dad's, we sanded the inside of the socket, and removed the locking tab.
On mine, I removed the locking tab and sanded down the outside of the tube.

You still need to rock the thing back and forth while hitting the bottom of the seat with a rubber mallet.

Such a pain in the back.

Next ones will be Kingpin style, I think.
