I have full coverage... If they want it that bad they can take it, That would give me an excuse to buy another with a bigger motor and lifting strakes... :D

Or to buy something other than a pontoon boat . . . :D

aircraft cable wrapped in plastic would be good for locking the boat to the dock, having a stowage case would be helpful as well, I know while I'm rebuilding my interior I'm incorperating a lockable bow section for gear.

Re: Boat Security While at a Public Dock

this is an interesting read ...

I thought it was just me that gets paranoid about leaving my boat at the dock, guess I'm not alone.

I don't want to leave anything in the boat, and worry about losing things including the outboard and fuel tank (small outboards, under 20 HP)

I always wonder if I got it tied uip good enough, am I going to come back and find my boat drifting down the river?

I try to avoid docks, but on some long river trips with the kids, you just have to get out and stretch once and a while, but I prefer to beach it and bring my own lunched, then I can sit on the sand or rocks, under a tree or what ever, within a few feet of the boat.

but then again, my boats old and ugly, ain't no one going to want it anyway.

No boat is 100% safe.

The bad guys could have their way with any hole in your boat.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

I have seen thieves hack $30,000 worth of damage to get $300 worth of electronics.

If they want your ship, they are going to take it.

I always found there is mostly a( boaters respect) within ourselves we can admire another boat but we know what we go through just for our own craft , as long as you lock up your valuables. and if that doesnt work just coat the boat with a heavy coating of vasoline theyll either fall overboard or break something !!!:D

I take the key out, and that's about it. If someone is really hell-bent on bringing the tools to take out the radio, nothing is going to stop then anyway.

If I have to park the trailer somewhere other than usual, I put a lock on it, but really most of the time I just trust (hope) that other boater are good people and we'll look out for each other.

Don't count on safety in numbers either, my number one squeeze (wife) got back from offshore and pulled up to protected area inside the St. Lucie Inlet for a break and a walk down the beach. Must have been at least 2 dozen boats pulled up in the same general area. My 4 matching stand up rods with shimano 20's were in a side console rod mount. When we returned, they were gone and no one noticed a thing. Guess they pulled up right next to my boat and nonchalantly grabbed them.
:(
That hurt but you can bet we never did it again.

Hope no one else has had this experience

I use a pistol case for my electronics, from walmart, holds all of em, gps, vhs, fish finder, portable maps and documents and is lockable, about 10 bucks.
