well, a few months ago i posted a topic about whether or not its worth rent a boat slip. Well i decided to rent a slip. Today, i brought my boat to the slip, went for a quick cruise, came back and as i was tying my boat up i hear a LOUD bang. I look over and see some idiot flying through the slip area accidiently slamming into 2 parked boats, and just kept going as if nothing happened.(1 boat had slight damage). Out of control, he was obviously not experienced, but the jerk had the nerve to keep going not caring about other peoples' property.
What did i get my self into? now i have to worry about my boat getting damaged by some clown while i'm paying $1100 for a slip. oh man, i think i regret this one!

A car flying through a parking lot and hitting other boats/vehicles is no accident. It's stupidity. Boomyal is right...report it to the owners. You can't police other people all the time or let it worry you so much it ruins your boating experience. Be careful yourself and enjoy the water..... :)

well, i didnt report him yet, but i did write down is reg number. His slip is about 2 down from mine. I also noticed one of the boats he hit has large chunk missing from his prop. I feel really bad for the person who has to come and find damage to their boat.

mperm: I keep my boat at lakeview marina, it's at the northern part of the lake. where is yours?

You obviously don't feel to bad for these people since you haven't reported the person that did the damage. I would think you would want to see justice done rather than protecting the quilty person.

Seeing a hit-skip accident and not reporting it is wrong....period. If I see someone breaking into your house....should I report it ? Or would you rather I just go back to watching tv and not care. When you have a boat slipped at a marina, these people are your neighbors....treat them as such.

well i want to report it, but i dont want a brick through my winshield either. You know how some people are. I was the only 1 to witness it, so it will be pretty obvious that i reported him. I guess next time i see the owner of the damaged boat, i'll let him know what i saw.

Or call the people up who own the boat that was hit and let them know what happened and let them take action and see where that goes, if the guy has a bad record with the marina it might be all it takes.

Also what a world we live in, this just shows how much people only care about themselves and no one else, report that guy and worry about your own boat later, just imagine if everyone looked the other way in life, its sad that people even worry about this sort of brick through the windshield thing, I know I have enough guts to do whats right, do you?

Re: boat slip regrets ..

You watch too much TV or read too many newspapers! 99% of the people out there are good. I doubt the guy is going to put a brick through your window... he may think about it but the consequences of getting caught more than outweigh the risk. Heck, he got caught once! How many times have you found a scratch or ding on your car and wished someone saw the dude? Heck, insurance'll probably cover it anyway. The guy was probably more embarassed than anything else, putting bricks through a window is for kids and ghettos, not boaters. (Just my 2 cents! You were there, not me. Do what you feel is right!)

Report the incident, either to management or to the owners of the boats involved. This is what you would want if it was your boat that was hit.

Its not like your boat is guaranteed to be hit if it sits in a slip, just like it is not certain you will be hit by a bus everytime you cross a street.

if you don't report the guy, would you feel partially responsible if he hits another boat?

Jamie: Sorry it took me so long to respond. I am a Bridge marina which is across the street from you. I have been there for 5 years now and it is pretty nice.
