Quicksilver Valve Kit-Check part number 21-862271A 1

I found a different site that mentioned installing this kit to prevent the hot water from flowing back into the fuel cooler.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Re: Boat stops on the lake Fuel pump or What?

I promised to report back so here goes. I replaced the fuel pump and the fuel cooler as they have to be ordered together. I also attempted to reroute the fuel line a bit per the service bulletin.

While on the lake, I did let the blower run a little longer and opened the hatch after a long run to let the area breath a little. I also revved the engine a bit (1500-1800 rpm) after it started to make sure the fuel pump could pressurize.

I am happy to report that I did not have any more issues. We ran Dale Hollow for three days with no issues.

I am planning on adding a bit of insulation on the fuel line from the pump to the throttle body. A friend of mine has a newer boat and Mercruiser has added an additional layer of insulation to the line.

The boat will have to be trouble free for quite some time for me not to be a little nervous! I guess that is the nature of boating!

Hope this helps.

I also took spot meter to check temps on the lines and on the block just to make sure I was not overheating. I recorded as high as 130 degrees on top of the motor and 160 on one of the return lines leading to the water pump. The oil filter was the hottest at 170 at one point.

The engine compartment itself was not horrible hot. The temp on the Throttle body never got over 110. One point on the exposed metal of the fuel line that is directly above the engine was also 130.

However, I do not think any of the temps are out of line given the earlier posting referencing 176 as the temp Merc is concerned with. The temp gauge on the dash is consistent at 160 ish.

Hi Chaparral,
Glad you got your problem solved. While running around lake Cumberland this past week, after a long run, we anchored and swam for a few hours. When I attempted to start again, it just sputtered and died and would not restart. The engine compartment was very hot... I've read the service bulletin you mentioned and it talked about the check valve kit. I may try it and insultation my fuel lines before I replace the fuel pump.
