Any suggestions on why my boat takes on water when it is just sitting in my slip. I don't have a leak around drain plug or in hull.
Thx Dean

One of the biggest questions is do you have an outboard or an I/O? After that is answered, I think others might be able to help you a lot more.

First question; has it been raining? (I know that sounds obvious, but you never know)

Second question: how do you know there's no leaks in the either the hull or drain plug/etc.?

I know, it has a hole in it somewhere.

Where is that? Probably somewhere around where something sticks through the hull.

If it is an I/O check your bellows, I had a boot on my throttle cable leak and it took me forever to figure out what it was. I had already changed out the other bellows.

I also had an older Sunbird that leaked due to a bad transom seal... Found that leak by putting the boat on a trailer and filling the bilge with water. Then it poured out the back... Now I own a pontoon with an O/B :p

Ayuh,... If it's a 12' Tinny, it's probably loose rivets,...
Pound 'em tighter, 'n seal the inside with Glu-vit, then paint....

"boat"? what's that?

If it's an inboard (not an I/O) could be the seals.

And how much water? there's always a little water in a bilge; how serious depends on the size of the boat and the amount of water.

It is an I/O. I was looking at it yesterday and maybe its coming from red cable that goes to transom. I'm not that privvy when it comes to these types of things so would appreciate any suggestions.

Lots of different types of boats and I/O's and leak possibilities out there. A little information from you would be helpful. It would be most useful if you described the manufacturer and year of the boat and the manufacturer of the outdrive (OMC, Mercruiser, Volvo, etc).

Is the boat moored in a slip in the water all the time, or do you keep it on a trailer?

I put it in a slip about 3 months a year. Its a 1990 vip with a 3.0 omc the transom is an omc.

If you have a freshwater tank on the boat it could be an internal leak thru a fitting in the tank or hot water heater. Hope your bilge pumps are in good working order and the batteries have a good charge... ;)

I've had extensive experience with leaking Mercruisers, but can't help you with your OMC for possible leaks. Hopefully some of the OMC gurus will chime in - it would probably help if you changed your title to something like "OMC I/O takes on water in slip" to get their attention.
