boat that does not plane out

My father-in-law gave us a boat that does not seem to plane out until it's at full throttle. I am new to boats, so I need some advice. The boat weighs 1100 lbs. with a 75 hp outboard. I have had people tell me that I need a whale tale or a different prop. I have checked the prop and it matches the engine. I need some advice.

Try posting this question in the BOATING FORUM for more responses.<br /><br />Where is your cavitation plate sitting in relation to the bottom of the boat? What is the max rpm's that you are getting?

I don't have a tach, so I don't know the rpm's the engine is at. I will have to measure where the cavitation plate is and get back with you tomorrow.

Once on plane, how far can you back off the throttle before it drops off? Could it be loaded bow-heavy?
