Boat tools?

I am just wondering where the boat mechanics , talented DYI , marine engineers get there boat tools from?
I know a lot of the sockets , wrenches and standard tools for building ,auto ,...etc can be gotten locally at a home depot, sears , autozone ,...etc but a lot of times you require engine specific tools in this cases where do you go for these.

Do you order directly online thru the manufacture or by other means. (is it possible to rent theses ?)
I am in a situation where I have an engine that I need a special tool which I can't find locally at an autozone , napa , or local supply/tool store.

Re: Boat tools?

Tell us which tool and we'll be able to help you. Most of the time, those "once in a while" tools can be found on ebay...

Re: Boat tools?

Sam, I'd advise you to post in the forum dedicated to the engine in question. Supply info on the model, and describe what it is you need to do and what tool you're looking for. Very often somebody knows a workaround, or can tell you precisely where to find what you need.

There's a ton of help to be found here, but folks can't respond intelligently when asked vague questions in the 'general' forum.

Good luck!

Re: Boat tools?

The Gamefisher, if it's an Eska gamefisher is a 2 stroke Tecumseh lawnmower engine with a specially rigged crankshaft to mate the Eska lower unit.. They are not really boat motors at all... All you need is a flywheel knocker. Should have 1/2" thread, so you likely need a 1/2" flywheel knocker.. A small engine shop may have one to borrow. Most all Tecumseh engines 4hp+ were 1/2" thread, but it could be 7/16" on a chance.. You just thread it on, put a pry bar under the flywheel lightly, and give the knocker a good wack... I don't like the method of using a nut threadded 1/2 on a bolt as it can damage the threads if done wrong.

EDIT: Found a good video
