Ok, I have this dilemma. I have been approached a couple times now regarding someone at my dock wanting to tradde boats with me. I have a 20' 87' Larson Dc 190 Cuddy boat with a 3.7 Mercruiser, Alpha one in it. She has been completely re-done, inside and out. engine only has 48 hours on her, put new motor in her last year. He wants to trade me a 24' 90' Four Winns Vista 245 which has the 460 form motor in her with 184 hours on it. He tells me that the outdrive is a OMC, remember our boats are in the water currently so we cant see them, the outdrives that is. Is there anything I need to know about the vista model? Any information would be greately helpful. Should I trade up or not?

Re: Boat trade

Ford 460 engines are notorious for problems and many places won't even work on them. Parts may or may not be an issue. OMC isn't in business anymore. IMHO, thanks, but no thanks.

Ayuh,.... Havin' a 470 is nothin' to brag about, but havin' a 460 Ford/ OMC is Worse...

That'd be goin' from the fryin' pan, directly into the Fire....

Yeah I wouldn't be to thrilled about that trade. Seems like you've got an awesome boat yourself so don't even risk it IMO.

I'm sure you know this, but his is a cruiser, yours is more of a day boat. Both have negetives in the running gear (your 3.7, his OMC and 460). Honestly, unless you had your heart set on a cruiser style boat, I would stick with the one you have. It sounds like you spent a little time and energy to get her in good shape.

I would keep what you have unless you totally need a bigger boat, then Sell yours off and buy something that will fit when you have time to look and test drive and all those good things.

Acyually, I have spent thousands of dollars to get to the place where she is now, including repowering her.

That pretty well sums it up, IMO

Sounds like you have got her to where you want her. Do you really want to start over again making another boat "yours"? IMHO I would keep the one you have.
