How are Makos?

When it comes to inexpensive boats, brand matters little. It's all about how it was maintained. Makos are great boats. But that doesn't matter if it was left out with no cover and the plug in for 4 years. Any boat that isn't rotted with a running non-obsolete powerplant is a good boat :)

actually, a mako would do just fine left out for four years, unless it filled up with water.

Gee, I really wanted to add something here, but it was all covered really well:)

Buying used at that price point, you want to be a little flexible. Center console is a great choice, but a walk-around cuddy would also meet your needs adequately. You want good cockpit room for fishing. V-hull, 20-ish feet long, all good. Outboard, good choice too.

Good luck- have fun looking!

and one last thing...if your budget to get on the water is 5K, spend 3K or less on the actual purchase of the boat.

I would look for a nice Boston Whaler w/outboard or a key largo...basiclly anything that's a center console or open style boat. Best for fishing. Fiberglass or aluminum that's your choice. Aluminum is going to be lighter...fiberglass not so much.Pros and Cons to both materials..I recently bought a 16' Bass tracker w/ a 25hp Johnson. 1300$ like new condition. Very practical, easy to tow...etc. I'm 16 and a soph in high school and i could afford this.. 5,000$ gives you some room to play with....

Shes a real wide body @ 78''. Stable.

60hp max, 1350lb max cap.

After months of wheelin' and dealin' this is what i got. Hope it helps..

When the guys talk about all fiberglass boats, I hope they mean that there are no wood stringers or deck. Replacing wood floors and stringers could be expensive. I do not know that there are all glass boats with no wood at all, if so that would be the way to go. Post your purchase and let us know.

That seems like a good deal. But spending 5000 isnt going to give you any money for anything else

Try to offer $4000 and go from there, if you can save some cash good deal. I like the boat but you might need the cash for any extra cost.

I believe its a 1969. The engine is rebuilt. I just saw it but didn't really know what to look for. lol.. I'm thinking about offering 2 grand for it and go from there. What do you guys think?

It looks similiar to this but it needs more work cosmetically. The guy says it needs some wiring work other than that it runs.
