unless the boat is no older than 5 years or so, guides are meaningless. Condition is more important, as is motor type. Hull style is also important; in some regions pontoons aren't very desirable and in others they are.

Look at used boat ads, such as craigslist, in your state to get an idea. You may find that the real value is in the outboard, since trailers seldom make a difference.

tell us about your boat

It is a 2010 Triton Cypress Cay (Seabreeze 210) 21 foot pontoon with a 90 h.p. Merc.. Seats 11 people.. Has the ski/tow bar nice stero system an indash depth finder.. Also I have the sissor type (haul rite) trailer.. Here is a photo of the boat...

Re: Boat value

Try asking the dealer for a cash purchase quote, not a trade quote.
If they offer anything, it'll likely be about half of what they'd try and sell it for.
Might give you a rough idea. Also compare to similar boats for sale in your area.
Trade in quotes are tough, depends on how you go about getting them. Depends on how much the dealer wants that boat.
If you bought new, you took a depreciation hit when you drove off, that'll come out of your trade in quote.
Say that boat cost $20K new (wild guess on my part) maybe they'd offer you in a trade in the mid teens, maybe a bit more if you're trading up.
Trading down, they're gonna skin you.

Re: Boat value

The boat business is different from the automobile business. You can purchase automobiles for $100-200 over cost on domestic cars, and car dealers operate off volume.

Boat dealers have expenses all year round, even though they're just selling boats 6 months of the year. Also, mounting engines and accessories are much more time consuming than a quick "new car git ready." Car dealers have manufacturer funds withheld and other incentive funds they get later for profits. Boat dealers don't have such incentives.

Simple truth: If a boat sold for $20K a year ago, the dealer probably paid $17K for the boat. Because can replace your pontoon for $17K, he's probably going to offer you $15K for a used boat. He's in business to turn a profit, and the boat business generally sucks.

Suggestion: Put your boat on CraigsList.com, BoatTrader.com, local newspaper or anywhere you can sell it Retail. A little effort will be $2K in your pocket. Good used pontoons are in demand--especially so new.
