Ive done alot of bank fishing and common sense should tell you when to retrieve your line because of an approaching boat. Some people obviously have no common sense. I had a guy toss a large castnet right infront of my moving boat as I approached on the side to unload folks at the NO Fishing boatramps dock. It's maybe 5' deep and he hung his net in the riprap bottom. I reversed causing someone to almost fall. I was mad enough to physically assault this guy, but he ran away after freeing/ripping his net while I moved my boat away for the next one behind me. There was a evedently a language barrier, but I think my point was made.

Gee Mark does that include folks fishing from private piers in open lake areas?

Obviously Nooooooooooo as open lake areas allow room for both sets to enjoy the environment! Okaye!

Well on Erie and the in land lake we always have problems. People shore fishing start catching fish and boats come into shore and anchor in casting range. Or troll across your lines. On Lake Erie the same thing. Start catching fish and every good for nothing captain comes and either anchors to your boat or starts whipping in front or across your lines.Some people no matter if on shore or in the boat don't matter you can see how they are raised. Some only consider themselves. If you don't make an effort to a void other fishing lines on a boat or off shore well you know what you are. You don't own the water no more then any one else. These days I use a boat all the time, but didn't use too. And when some jerk would go over my lines Id bounce the heaviest sinker I could off his prize boat. And I didn't run I prayed he come to shore. I'm smart enough not to run lines over, I do not like boat problems. I also would prefer seeing fisherman getting along. But some times certain people won't let it happen.

Thanks for the reply Mark. Now the record is straight. Here in Wisconsin there are many rivers and channels the see a lot of fishing pressure by both boaters and bankers. I have been on both sides of that coin. When I'm in those areas I usually position myself so that I can see what's coming from either direction and yes I do retrieve my lines to let the boaters pass. I myself do not feel inconvenienced by doing so but I am sure there are others who are. The ones who are. well they are inconsiderate, selfish boobs! The same as the boaters out for their Sunday evening cruise and feel no need to change course when they see pier fishing 100 yrds ahead of them. They wave and try and make small talk, which they can do w/o even raising their voices. If you really want to be that neighborly then stop the boat, let me aboard and give me a beer!
