Re: Boat vs Garage

Thanks for the Numbers.

If your comparing your 196 to the 183 on the net for specs, the 183ss is the same boat as the 190ssi but they changed the model designation/badging in 2004 and ran it thru 2008. Also, if you go to the Chaparral corporate owners website someone there will likely have your exact answer. If you can angle it a little you can fit a lot more boat. Lots of my neighbors and friends weren't as satisfied as I was with an 18 footer and simply angle their larger boats at the expense of taking up two garage stalls.

Very astute observation, since the early '80's can only be distinguished with a view of the grill and tail lights. Yes, he's an '80. "Old Blue" only gets out on weekends to pull the boat. "Grandpa" is a '67 and and he only gets out on cruise nights, and only if its not raining. Both are one-owner cars and both are appraised above sticker price.

Gotta love Pontiacs. Too bad Obama Motors (Govt. Motors, i.e., GM) didn't share the same passion. Sure beats pulling your boat with a pickumuptruck!

That reminds me a lot of my 82 Grand Prix I had in high school in 1991. Fond memories of the car but not its underpowered engine. I do think GM had too many car lines to support though.

I am not far from you, just a skip over to San Antonio. Do you ever got to lake houston or just Conroe?

Lake Houston is close and we hit it most... Planning a LAKE weekend @ Conroe if I can find a cool place to rent for the weekend... I use to live in the Hillcountry.. I loved LBJ and canyon lake... So did everyone else on the weekends...

Yeah the highland lakes are beautiful but overly crowed on weekends, As a kid my family had houses on lake travis and lake buchanan. Of course they got rid of both of them just around the time us grandkids were old enough to actually use them, figures. I have never been to lake houston but I have heard most people that live in houston dont know about it. The last time I was at canyon lake last summer I was cruising along out of comal park cove and realized those birds standing in the water wasn't a good thing, damn sandbars.

Yeah for some reason Lake Houston isn't all that bad;)... I think it's because people go to the bay or Conroe since its a bigger lake.. Plus livingston isn't far.. Thats a huge lake... I been on LBJ where it felt like ocean swells from all the boat traffic.. Still it can be 100 outside and the water coming from the dam will be nice and cool.. Makes it a awesome lake in my book other than the damn ROCKs:facepalm:

Come on out to lake houston.. There is a awesome free to use Park.. Ran by the county.. Free 8 lane boat ramp.. They even got a sailboat ramp... It's our little hide away

Thanks for the pics Jim, yep, caught the year from the tail lights. The '81 tails were recycled on the '85/86 Parisiennes. First car I owned was a '72 Catalina convertible. Pontiac made some mighty fine cars. Look real good towing boats :D

one thing to consider about garaging--the space you are dedicating to boat storage is not free. I need my garage space for a number of functions, and would not want it shut down for storage. Consider the cost to store as part of the cost of boating--whether paying for a covered spot, keeping it outside covered, or losing your garage (you pay that storage bill each month with your mortgage).

Re: Boat vs Garage

There is nothing parked in my garage, its avaliable. My work trucks do not get garaged unless a hail storm pops up. If that happens I have airplane hangar access for them. I am in the process of checking out a chap 220 at the moment so the garage idea may be out the window anyways.
