If it was someone, thats not even right, i was at a store, went in to pay for gas, and when i came out some guy was letting his kid play in my boat, i said "im sorry can i help you" his reply..."my son was just curious about your boat i figured it wouldnt hurt anything well get out of your hair thanks"..WTF i dont mind letting a kid explore the boat but thats like going in some strangers house and telling them you are just curious to see there house

That is the same type of guy that would sue you, if your son got hurt.

Back onto the topic. It could have very well been a rodent or animal of some kind. Animals are smarter than you think. They might not enter the same place where you enter so there could be a spot unbuttoned on the other side, etc. My g/f and I thought at first that a bird feeder was being blown off the hook, then one weekend we found it across our yard. This bird feeder wasn't so easy to get to, but we think it was a Raccoon, but are not completely sure, since he was wearing a mask. :p We just try to remember to take it down every night.

It may well be an opossum or coon. I have had the same thing happen,.Had the cover on tight and snapped, but watched a coon go right in, and he NEVER unsnapped the snaps! They are tricky little critters. AND they will go in there to eat, so that other animals do not get their food.

It sounds like someone would have gone out of their way to let their dog into your boat. Even someone with no respect for others property probably wouldn't open the canvas, let the dog relax, and then close the boat up. I would assume the water rodent or some other type of animal.

My first bet is that it wasn't another person, unless they also took the boat out for a ride. Take note of your hour meter in case it happens again.
I'd bet a raccoon, although they usually crap everywhere, too. I am currently having an issue with otters, raiding my crab pots and crapping all over my pier at night.
The only other possibility is that someone told friends to meet them on their boat, the friends arrived early and accidentally got on the wrong boat, and buttoned it up when they realized the mistake. Of course, they wouldn't think to vaccuum. If dog hair is the only "damage" it's not big deal. Just a mistake.

I've had racoons in my old boat twice. One time they were somehow down in one of the underseat compartments. I have no idea how they opened the seat, got it, then got out.

That's the way people are now. Took my boat out Saturday for a few hour test drive. Came back to the ramp, found the tailgate on my truck down with a 12-pack of empty Buds & a few cigarette butts. I'd to press their buttons!!

Maybe forensics should be summoned to do a hair sample so we can know for sure what we're dealing with here...If it's true that it was a dog that disrespected your boat and we know the breed, that would surely narrow the field of possible culprits and motives, putting to an end the cat and rodent speculations.

Sorry for your troubles at the dock...I feel your frustration!

A number of years ago I went down to my slip to check in on my boat only to find the battery and some other equipment missing, beer cans all over the place, someones clothing laying around and the boat was submerged under water while still attached to the dock.

Myself and others at the dock speculated that some drunk *****holes stole the equipment and then pushed the back of the boat down to sink it as it was already very low due to water from torrential rainfall. Maybe an attempt to cover up the crime.

The next marina I pay for will have better security. People have no respect.

I keep one on a trailer at a private club (dry slip). Someone on a Friday night launched it with no plug and left it. I suspect they could not find the key or if they did, could not find the battery cut-off switch, so they just left it. Because the boat was not in the dry slip (obviously) and the regular harbormaster was off, no one knew it was mine. The battery ran the bilge pump until the next day and kept it afloat (good to know) and when the battery went down, an assistant hooked up a pump. Someone saw it, recognized it as mine and called, and we got it up but it was right well swamped by then. No harm done except the battery went under and shorted out.
At first I thought my sister (I share the boat with her) forgot the plug. Then I thought someone launched the boat to steal the trailer, but found it on site. The strangest part is that it is the oldest most beat up of the boats there. It was in the fall, striper season, so I don't know if someone thought they'd go fishnig, or if teenage friends of my nieces thought they'd help themselves to our boat for a midnight cruise. Still don't know.
