this off iboats boat manufacturer lists....

1969 V-180
This inboard/outboard runabout is 18 feet long and weighs 1720 (pounds dry). This weight does not account for passengers, fuel, or gear. The beam of this craft is 83 inches.

just finished the trailer and had it weighed= 640 pounds
brought trailer and boat this morning = 3350 pounds
boat only = 2710 pounds

i started adding stuff up....
i figure about
100 pounds of gas and batteries
30 for electonics
75 for anchors
15 for life vests/cushions
75 for downriggers
50 pounds for fire exstinguishers/rope/miselaneous
a very generous 300 pounds for custom hardtop and bench seat livewell/storage
= 2065 pounds
- 1720
----------
345 pounds unaccounted for?

345 isnt really much of a difference, but its a difference....
but where is it????

Re: boat weight?

I would not stay awake to worry about it. Prior to the 1970's boat manufacturer's were without many of the regulations. I would be willing to bet that some engineer/salesman/clerk or flunky was tasked at making that list and did not check it.

Let's see 1969 Bond-o and I were in HS and my wife was born.... perhaps the person responsible back then is either retired or room temperature by now.

Make sure your tires are rated for the weight!! ;)

If you get busted being overweight...... there are many iboat people who will visit you in Danamora :p

Not much fuel & batteries at 100#. Your "generous" 350# for hard top seat baitwell may be light also. My 25 carries nearly 1000# of fuel and batteries. Wiring, rigging and, and pretty soon you have a 5000# load behind you.

Re: boat weight?

Fuel is about 8 or 9 lbs per gallon and most batteries are 30 or 40 lbs, for what it's worth. So at 100 lbs you're saying you have about 7 or 8 gallons of gas and 1 battery...

im not too worried about, the trailer is more than capable of carrying it. or atleast it will be once i get a good set of tires. and to think when i first bought this boat.......it was sitting on a trailer with the small 8 inch tires and 1 inch bearings! i ditched that fast! but have been running a homemade axle with only 14 inch tires for 2 years now with no problems.

300# is being very generous for that since its basically only about 1 1/2 sheet of 1/2" ply and about gallon of poly. the actual roof* is only 1/4" luan glassed. the sides of the custom* hardtop has large windows cut out of it and i use canvas snaps to close in. so theres even less weight on that than i generously figured for.

i only have a 12 gallon tank, little less than half full when i had it weighed + 2 batteries.

i was wondering that too...but the 1970 brochure shows 1100 pounds(i think) and then another 500 or so for the engine. so 1600 plus the outdrive would be roughly 1700# range.

im loving all the ideas/suggestions.........but i think its gonna stay a mystery :(
im gonna go with the scales were off ;)

I wouldn't worry about it since you are estimating anyway. I'd bet if you got real tight about it and actually weighed everything you could find the lost 345#. For instance, motor oil, trim fluid, gear lube ect. Here is a sight that lists battery weights,

http://www.lifelinebatteries.com/marinebatteries.php

65# for group 27's so with 2 and 6 gal gas your at 170#, if your only running one your estimate was close.

In addition to all accesories, what about the wire to run them? Probably have 10# of wire.

So it will add up quick

Actually, the average weight of gasoline is about 6.2 lbs per gallon. Water is a little over 8 lbs per gallon.

Just wanted to clarify for people making weight estimates. Might not be a big deal when you carry 10-40 gallons of fuel, but when you boat handles several hundred gallons, the difference can get huge! (on the flip side, over-estimating/conservative estimating is never a bad thing)!

Just out of curiosity I went and weighed my batteries since they were in the garage charging. Group 27 Exide Deep Cycle in box = 54lbs

Yep, good point, I just threw the number out for waters weight figuring it would be close enough for his estimations, in case his number was significantly different. But your number is correct.

Re: boat weight?

well........ im actually thinking the scale was off when i had it weighed.

i previously weighed my fathers 1970 nineteen, which totaled 3000# with a dual axle trailer. listed weight for dry boat is 1580#. mine was 1720# dry!. same dual battery setup, equipment setup pretty much the same, had 3 times more gas in it. is has the original optional hardtop too. that only read 3000# on the scale?

i think im gonna try a different scale and see what happens.
im only still thinking about this because i installed a 3500# axle in mine, the type with the bow in it. if my setup actually weighed that much wouldnt the axle be pretty much straightened out seeing how its almost at max capacity? there is still a fairly good bow in it.
