Re: Boat will not go past 2rpms with load

Maclin-The specs say they the points should be gaped at 22 new but I put it on 19 because it would not start at 22 and no we are not familiar with breaker points style.

Futz-Ok, will have to try that, and will post psi. We don't no what temp and oil is running at there is not gauges for them but we know that it is not over heating.

The boat starts right up, we drive it once it hits 2rpms it stops accelerating, when you push the handle further it does nothing, but eventually after leaving the handle forward it will back fire and foul out a plug.

I?d still like to know what the timing is doing with the boat running and the RPMs increasing. If you don?t want to bother with the timing tape you could use a protractor from an old math set and being as accurate as you can mark some of the degrees on the balancer up to 30 degrees. Then at least you?d be able to tell if the timing is advancing as it should or if it?s bouncing around or not advancing at all.

ok got your email with the pics.

1- i don't like the fuel filters after the T to the carbs. what i would do is remove the inline filters, they look rusted anyway.

If it were my boat i would install a fuel water separator before the fuel pump, and remove the old sight glass after the pump. Run a gas line to a T and then straight to the carbs.

Open the top of the fuel pump you will see a filter in there just be careful how you take it apart and put it back the same way. Clean or replace the filter.

2- where does the coil sit when you run the boat? Looks to be sitting on the floor and should be mounted right above the distributor and a little to the left.

3- With the motor running, and water going to the drive take hold of the u hose. Does it seem very hard, you should feel the water running but not like the hose wants to burst.

It worries me you have no temp or oil gauge.
