Looking at a boat (25' Fishing Vessel) that has no electronics. Yes no vhf radio, gps, fish finder, depth, navigation, NOTHING. Marina sold it brand new to the original owner who never had them installed. Old timer they claim, was old school all the way. The marina took care of the boat the first 10 years until the owner moved to florida. Boat was not used much and the owner sent the became ill and sent the boat back north to his son. The son never used it. So it is being sold with bare bones in electronics. Looking for some feedback on the situation. Hopefully i am not looking at too much more than a plug and use situation. Or is that being unrealistic? What recommendations would you have as far as equipping this boat with electronics for the first time without spending too much money but staying up to date with what i would need to be safe and equipped on the Atlantic Ocean.

What type of boat are you talking about? And what is the condition of the boat. It sounds like it's been sitting around for a while, which usually isn't good for a boat. A 25' fishing vessel doesn't fill in the blanks. And what kind of fishing will you be doing on the Atlantic?

For starters all you need is a VHF radio and and a higher-end fish finder GPS combo unit. Those two items will take care of the basic needs you're looking for. Of course you can add on at a later time.

I think that's the ideal situation , you aren't forced into buying a bunch of outdated obsolete electronics.

...what i would need to be safe and equipped on the Atlantic Ocean.

Communication: a VHF radio w/ antenna, and a satellite based emergency beacon, either a PLB or an EPIRB.

Navigation/Depth Sounder: a multi-function display (MFD) including a chartplotter/fishfinder with a built-in GPS antenna, and a transducer.

To have nice stuff you're talking thousands of dollars. You get what you pay for.

A good friend just got a quote to outfit his new to him Grady White from scratch. Without radar, the quote to setup the boat for fishing inshore/offshore was $12,650

You can buy a good chart plotter/fish finder/depth sounder all in one for pretty cheep. Are you looking to fish off shore?
