Always Knew I could always count on other boaters no mater what and try to payback/fwd to all in need on water don't find that on land so much though .

I had no idea this happened. To quote one of the subjects in the film: "...I believe everybody has a little hero in them..."

The heroism in that one city and on one that one day just cannot be measured by humans. The bad acts of just a few ignited the most incredible and compasionate response of millions almost instantly. People helping people helping people.

They came togther in a instant and removed people 500,000 from being cornered on Island , 10 years and fellow boater posted on his Facebook for freinds . This is my kind of news ! USAF MT Brat from Vet.

Well, the number evacuated in 9 hours is amazing, but nothing else is.

They're boaters. They help people when needed. I would have expected nothing less.

That was a great story, thank you for sharing.

(And yes it did remind me of the story little boats and the evac of Dunkirk in WW2, but bigger this time.)

Watched the show on Gander Newfoundland sunday were they took 6000 people in on the flights that got stopped (Gander had 6000 inhabitants I believe at the time, doubled the population over night)

Please rate this post as this guy is retired vet that sent this to me and fishing buddy that I have saved his life and trusted mine with him many a time as friends and dogs you only get a few good ones in A lifetime ?
!0yrs late and I relized Island effect and how important something that floats don't need road just water.

I can only haul 7 peps 900lbs do the math 1/2 mill and did you notice how rough the harbor was . Thanks for all licenced captians as I cant spell but would not want to be beside anyone else in that instance .
