I was looking at my large print "truckers" atlas and it made me wonder.

Wonder why someone doesn't make a boaters atlas.

A map for all the states with detailed info on the lakes/rivers. [depth, fishing, camping, boat ramps etc]

One thing to consider is an Atlas is a book of road maps to help you find your way from A to B, etc. For something like that to be worth having for boaters (at least in many areas, especially tidal waters) just a road map type of atlas would not do much good without depth readings as well...

As i stated. it would be nice to have a BOATERS atlas with depths, camping, boat ramps, fishing etc.
Another thing would be to have the states fishing regs and contacts in the front.

Trucks by nature travel state to state. Boats typically reside in a home port. As was stated earlier, individual states offer info on boating, usually through the parks and recreation entities. Alot of work developing an "atlas" for very little demand.

Some boats do. Others like to explore with them:D

Any info you want for just about all the lakes and rivers are just finger tips away and Whammo there it is on your computer screen, There is alot more info on the computer that have full websites that show in detail just about any info your looking for.:) I go to the "Boating, Activities and Destinations" forum and think it's pretty cool to pull up where they are boating at!! I know what your saying, Man you just can't beat the computer for finding info out for just about anywhere!!

Sounds like a great idea!

Lots of boats travel from state to state and lots of people travel with their boats.

If you guys haven't tried it you should there is nothing like visiting people and taking them to see the waters around where they live.

For some odd reason lots of people don't have boats???

I have all the topo maps for northeast US and the eastern half of Canada loaded into my hand held Garmin. I can zoom into the smallest of lakes and creeks. It shows every road, trail and launch. Invaluable for the back country. Also, there are a series of map books called Back Country Maps. I have one for the area around my cottage. There are several others available, but I do not know if they are published for all areas of USA and Canada. The one that I have shows every road, cottage, lake depth, hill etc.

DeLorme topographical maps have one for every state broken down by county. They are pretty detailed as far as depth charts, channels, hazards, mileage, fish attracter's, etc. We used one this summer on Kentucky Lake and is was usefull. I'm sure the computer map suggestions are way better but if you want something quick and easy to take along that you don't have to worry about getting wet they are ok. I have four for the four state's nearby that I'm interested in boating in, I think I spent around $120 bucks.

I like the atlas idea but boy would it would be big. Probably impractical. And not all that cost effective for the publisher. DeLorme makes way more $$$ selling individual state maps then they would with a big atlas that how many people would buy???
