Boating Along The Jersey Shore...

I just moved to the Jersey Shore. My boat is being kept on the Shark River Inlet. I'm looking for information about local cruise destinations. New York is on the list. I'd also like to check out points South. I'm not a fisherman... what I like to do is find sheltered water, beach the boat and go for a swim, or have a meal at a dockside restaurant, or find a quiet spot where I can can unwind and watch the sunset, etc. Also an occasional overnight trip if there is a suitable spot to stay and anchor. The boat is a 20' cuddy cabin, not a big vessel, so that needs to be taken into account.

Any input, ideas, suggestions... are apppreciated.

I'm also interested in any local and specific knowledge about Shark River Inlet, which I've heard has some bad shoaling against the South jetty?

Thanks.

It all involves going in and out of inlets that are really affected buy the current tide conditions and open Ocean in this area is a bad place with heavy shipping traffic
