Boating habits/rituals/superstitions... Have any?

So I was just thinking of going boating with my dad as a kid and how I have adopted a lot of his boating rituals, superstitions, and habits. I was wondering what kind of things others do.

We name every boat and christen it. If that doesn't happen then you will always have bad luck while on the water.

We have always said a trip prayer before leaving the house for protection and good luck.

We have a check off list to make sure we have everything we need. i.e. plug, tackle, water, food, PFDs, etc.

We always bet $.25 for the first fish caught and $1.00 for the biggest.

He always had to wear the same hat. (that one I have not adopted)

only drink beer in green bottles before 10:30 am

Never comment out loud on it when it begins sprinkling before it rains

Tournament fishermen here swear that there must never be any banannas (even bananna flavored food, gum, etc.) on board. They are known to sabotage other boats by stashing banannas in hidden places on them.

Always put the plug in before the boat goes in the water.

I "low power" the boat before every outing, no matter what. Even if I only do it for 60 seconds, I lower the drive, hook up the muffs, and run the engine immediately before leaving the house.

I refuse to get to the ramp and realize I have a dead battery, bad gas, or broken parts.

Always have a clean boat before you go. It goes along with having clean socks.

I always wear my lucky hat , and a small libation is always poured over the side when the first beer is cracked (we must keep Neptune happy)

with my varicose boats (broken vessels) I find it best to head off against the wind and current, so when it breaks down, you can drift, or paddle easier, back home.

I never thought of that. I always splice the main brace with Navy rum on docking and it never occurred to me He would want some. Think that might be why my engine blew last year?

I always put the stars and stripes on the stern light pole, and say a prayer for the men and women of the military , for doing their job, so I may play :)

I always run the boat on muffs for a minute or two before heading to the ramp. Usually put the plug in at the house too.

Yes it's wise to offer a lil libation to King Neptune every once in awhile. The happier he is the better ...

My wifes ritual involves giving me a hard time about being neurotic and taking so long to get the boat ready to float. My ritual is to insert ear plugs....:D
