Doesn't matter if you are legal..........there is a substantial chance the officer checking you has no idea what the law is! and is only concerned with generating revenue for the city/county.......see thats how they keep their jobs and get promotions...
police officers have a huge amount of pressure on them to generate revenue .

it's no longer about " to protect and serve"

Re: Boating hangun carry laws

Is quite on topic as he wants to carry it for protection from bears. I have traveled all over the US and had many bear encounters with both black and brown. From my experience, black bears are scared of you any way. Usually yelling at the thing works well enough to keep it away. The problem has come when they get used to humans because of people leaving litter, food and such behind. Or if they have a cub around.
With brown bears, well i would want a gun too. I was in Denali in Alaska and one scared the crap out of me and my camping group. Didn't necessarily want to eat us, but did want the food we were cooking. Carrying some salmon to through at the animal might work better than a gun :)

I'd suggest that you keep in mind a lot of folks here are discussing Firearms regulations which are specific to their state. Firearms regulations can and do vary from state to state. I strongly urge to look to the local regulations where you are going and particularly those regulations as they pertain to whether you are an in-state or out of state resident. What you can do in your own or other states is completely irrelevant. The only thing that matters is the juristiction where you are going and and the regulations for that area. (Keeping in mind the regulations on Federal land supercedes the state regulations where that federal land is located).

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but, just because your state may have permits to carry it doesn't mean your neighboring state will honor that permit. Mn along with other states wont honor WI permits. Although, WI honors Mn, go figure.

It didn't take long for a cop basher to show up.

Take some simple advice, don't do things that give them a reason to generate revenue.

Stay focused on the OPs question. We're not going to drift off into a conversation about cop bashing or not.......... For the record, midcarolina, your comments are close to, if not, bashing. And no, I don't have a family member or friend who's in law enforcement....

...but the suppressed MP5 is my favorite.
Dunno' about the suppressed version, but the MP5 is a sweeeeeeeeet firearm. The only thing I've shot that's smoother than that weapon is an old .45 Thompson.

suppressed CAR for me thank you.
The CAR is a bit jumpy for me, unless it's the .223 version. Not as bad as the AK, but it's got a little pop to it.

... along with that, a "recon" call to the local constabulary (sheriff or PD) isn't a bad idea either. My permit reciprocates in GA, but the answers I get from Fulton County (Atlanta) when I ask about carrying on my TN permit make me a little too nervous in that town.

In CA you do not need a ccw at your home, that said, where you are camping (your campground area) is also your home, if you have a boat you can sleep on like a cabin cruiser that is your home, same for a camper or motorhome.

Ever notice it is the towns where you really want to carry are the ones with the ANTI laws? Makes the criminals feel empowered

Yes, and no... That is only true under very specific conditions. Your RV or boat absolutely needs to be stationary, and in an area generally recognized as a place people spend the night. An RV pulled over on the side the road is not in 'residence' mode. A boat needs to be moored in a way that you would for overnight stays.

If you don't meet those conditions, the weapon ABSOLUTELY must comply with any motor vehicle laws, at least for the RV, and any applicable boating laws for the boat. Generally that means unloaded, and in a enclosed case not within reach of the driver. (This hasn't been tested, but several california cities specify that guns MUST be locked up while at your home. Using the same logic, that laws applies to your rv/boat when in 'home' mode.)

Lastly, California doesn't have a law preventing private property owners from banning guns. The campground or marina you stay in may not allow guns, and your right to have them in what you consider your home does NOT override it. Your home is parked on private property.

I have a NC CCP ~~ good in all but 12 states and DC. Most of those like NY, NJ, IL, and CA I have no desire to go to or through anyway.

... I actually wouldn't say that about Atlanta, or at least not Georgia as a whole.

Re: Boating hangun carry laws

I live in grizzly country and I don't carry a firearm any longer when I am out camping and fishing, after using bear spray twice, I can tell you it is far more effective than trying to shoot a bear in the right spot in an excited situation. Encountering bears and cats where I live is a pretty common event and the bear spray has never failed me, or a bunch of friends that I do go out to the woods with, we have even used it on Moose, which are a hell of a lot meaner than bears, now cats, it is effective on and has been used quite successfully on, in fact our wildlife dept recommends it for cats. I am not anti gun at all and own many, including a .500 S&W mag(Pain to shoot!), but I will still take my bear spray.

I can honestly say, I was surprised at how well it works, and I am a combat trained urban, close quarters specialist, in fact the last 10 years in the Military, that is what I trained people on, close quarters urban combat and going up against a 600 pound grizzly is much more intense.

I a firm believer that your biggest peril while boating or camping, out in the back country or anywhere else in this country, is not the wildlife around you but your fellow man.
