Have any of you guys with tougher model boats boated in ice. I have seen some deep v models doing it in 2 inch ice and supposedly it didn't affect the hull at all. Actually smoothed it out a bit they told us. Tell us if you have and how you did it and if it screwed up your boat at all

Ice, it's summertime for half the world. Come back in 6 months and ask again.

If these guys would use the smileys when they are kidding around maybe people wouldn't get offended.

In my neck of the woods 2" of ice is when the fools start walking on it.:eek:

when it is 100 plus in Texas we kindof wish for some ice. My above ground pool is more of a hottub.

Re: Boating in ice

Our best fishing doesn't start until after Thanksgiving so we boat well into the winter around here.

The Bay is brackish water. The main body of water rarely freezes but it's not uncommon to have "skim ice" in the back Bays when you leave in the morning.

I've gone out when you had to back up and run back up and run but the ice was only 3/4" -1" thich max. I like my hull to much to try and break 2" thick ice.

This was SLIGHTLY bigger than 2 inches... there were still ice chunks on the river for the first time out wakeboarding of the year. That is probably a couple hundred pound block of ice in front of the boat

Re: Boating in ice

We had ice here in Louisiana once. I think it was called "the ice age." My boat was out for service at the time! :p

I would not boat in just about any small boat, with two inches of ice. Aside from possible damage to the boat, if you end up in the water because of that damage, PFD or not, you've got about 10 minutes to get out of 30 degree water, before you will be unable to help yourself. Your fingers and hands will become incapable of performing simple tasks and you will have little ability to climb onto a partially floating boat, etc. If there is no one else around to get you out, you will die of hypothermia in about an hour, or less.

Not a good idea, IMO.

No i knew they were joking but it was a serious question. I see alot of people doing it in March April May when its a couple inches thick. Where i live(mountains of arizona) its common to see people do it the fall and spring. Winter no way its usually 2 ft thick ice

Re: Boating in ice

ive busted ice up to 3-4 inches thick before during duck season here in northern il, duck hunters are a special breed though! ive been out when the ice was so thick the boat actually stopped we pulled the boat up on the ice and pushed it until we broke trough again (lake is man made 4 feet deep). i boat in the ice every year until its absolutely impassable, like i said duck hunters are......special!:D
