Does anyone have information about the boating on the Tippacanoe river north of Lake Shafer, around Buffalo, IN? We are thinking of renting a house there this summer, and we are wondering if the river is navigable to Lake Shafer and Indiana Beach. Our boat is a 19’ I/O bowrider.

Anyone with experience in that neck of the woods? We have never boated that water, and we’re not sure if renting there would be worthwhile.

Thanks for any info you can share!

I haven't been there but Navionics says it is less than 5' around Buffalo. The soundings start at Buffalo at 4' and doesn't increase until 3 miles south of there (around Lakewood Resort) where the first 10' depth is recorded. Google shows some kind of boat going upriver about 2 miles south of Buffalo and there's a boat ramp 1/2 mile south of Buffalo. There are numerous docks from Buffalo south but I didn't see any boats at the docks. Indiana Beach has 25'-30'. Looks like there's a boat ramp at Lowe's Bridge Road which is a 10 minute drive from Buffalo and would put you in 10-20' of water.

Hopefully you'll get some local knowledge!
