I was wondering what the boating laws are for the us in regards to guns on boats. I know in FL you cna carry a gun in a car as long as its not visible and if you get searched you have to let the officer know its there. The only reason i ask is that off the coast a few weeks back a man and his friend got "jacked" and robbed. Didnt take the boat or anything just money whatever was on board. They were in international water i beleive (40 miles) out. What is the law in international waters?

in Florida, you can have a gun on a boat, it needs to be registered, and permitted. but any drugs will get it confiscated immediately.

Interesting question. Gun laws vary a lot from state to state.AZ is oposite, it must be visable or locked up. Who has the right to stop you in international waters?

I have a buddy who captains a 57' Bertram (full-time) for the fellow who owns it. Whenever they travel, Bermuda, Bahamas, etc., they carry an AR-15 with the 100rnd twin drum magazine. Wrong boat to try and pirate...

If the owner can get an AR-15, in today's world, what makes you think the pirates don't have a RPG? However, I still like the idea of being armed.

i've no idea what the law is. but i'd think that bein armed on the open seas would be a good idea. there ain't no police out there. and i don't like guns or own one......but there's far to many crazy's out there to not think like that........if i was on the open seas. i would be armed...........i have an open mind.......;)

Uhhh
FALSE, in Florida, long guns nor handguns are registered.
Permit to carry concealed, yes YOU have to have a permit.
But even then, the gun your carrying does not have to be registered.
There is not even a place to voluntary register if you wanted to register your gun.
Your boat is your vehicle and so the same rules apply to boats and guns as do automobiles and guns. Such as the gun must be "securely encased"

Go here and click on your state.
http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/#?st=FL

In Florida, it is lawful to possess a concealed firearm for self-defense or other lawful purposes within the interior of a private conveyance, without a license, if the firearm is securely encased or is otherwise not readily accessible for immediate use.

This typically means in a holster with at least a snap strap or in zippered case while in a compartment with a latched door.

Merely "out-of-sight" is not permissable.
