not sure if this post is gonna fly here, but here it goes...im frustrated. I want a 15 or 20 lb navy anchor for my boat. check iboats. have it, but expensive after shipped. call west marine. they dont know what a navy anchor is, let alone have it in stock. call bass pro. get disconnected. call back and get transferred 3 times. then they guy says ya we have them. i ask him to check the part number, but he insists they have it. i say fine im driving across town, then he says wait let me check. nope, they dont have it and cant order it for me, i have to order it online.

come on, man. BPS cant order an anchor and have it shipped to a store, then call me when it comes in? i have to pay for shipping on it, when they say they carry it? west marine doesnt know what a navy anchor is or what it looks like?

now im looking for anchor rhode markers (the colored tabs that tell how much line is dropped 50ft, 100ft, 150ft, etc). bass pro shops transfers me to marine. she transfers me to fishing. back to marine. then she says nope dont have em. i ask if she knows what im talkin about, she says ya, the big orange bobber thing. i say nope n hang up. call west marine. the phone rings, a girl answers. i ask, she says she doesnt know what they are. so i ask her to check the part number i found online, she says we are closed so call back tomorrow after we open. i looked and it was 15 min after they closed. why did she answer the customer service line then?????? she couldnt take a min to check it out? hmm.

I hate to say it, but my local boaters world that closed down would have known what all this was, if they had it, and where to get it if they didnt. maybe i should work at bass pro shops in the marine dept, i woulda been alot more help than everyone i dealt with in the past two days haha. iboats was very helpful, but after shipping it would have been too expensive for the anchor. i am ordering smarttabs from them though, great price even with shipping on them!!!

anyways, sorry had to rant. its been a frustrating week tryin to get ready for this weekend lol.

for as stuck up as they are, and as much as they brag about being the best, boaters world cant hold up to them, they are #1, blah blah blah, yes they should know what a navy anchor looks like lol.

Re: boating stores

Why not just google what you want and order it online from a discount marine store?

Some offer cheap or free shipping just to get your name so they can drip on you with their email ads.

Just takes a little time searching. Also when I order heavy items I usually do it along with other items many stores won't charge shipping on orders over $100.

There is also Gander Mountain (now owned by Overton's) I was in Gander's store last week and they had a big display of anchors.

Cabelas has turned more into a clothing and camping store. Gander is moving towards that route too.

Iboats search engine is not great. Best to call them and ask. Many times a search shows they don't carry it but then they turn up under a Google search. You would think they would fix their search engine with all those Boater's World customers up for grabs but I guess they don't need the business.

Walmart's online Marine selection is picking up online. I just bought a Seacoast Mighty wheel jack for $70 from them with free shipping to local store for pick up or $8 shipped to home. Iboats wanted $92 for same item plus shipping on a 20 lb item. iBoats will price match, but I don't have the time to fool around when they should have been more competitive in the first place. I think Walmart is making a smart play for the Boaters World customers.

"Too expensive" sounds like a bit of a cop out to me, Redone.

What do you think it ought to cost to ship a 15-20lb anchor?? It wouldn't surprise me if it cost more than the anchor, but that is the real world.

It is sort of in the same class as Factory Service Manuals. It seems expensive, but in the long run it is a lot less expensive than the potential cost of not having it.

okay, here it goes. i wasnt gonna bring up prices.....
15 lb navy anchor at iboats: $40.69 shipped
Bass pro shops: $33.94 shipped, or 22.99 in the store

I called iboats, and they cant price match because they are different brands. Im sorry, but iboats usually charges more when i get pricing on stuff. this is another case. the iboats regular price is $28.15, and thats with 21% off! its not a big deal, but i dont see paying for shipping on an item that BPS carries for 23 bucks. that doesnt make sense to me.

I already have an adequate anchor, I just prefer the navy style so I was looking to upgrade. none of these things are a neccessity, just upgrades for me. My main point was about customer service and marine stores not wanting to help or not being familiar with their products. iboats was helpful, but more $$$. i dont like to pay more $$$, when i can buy other equipment with it instead.

Re: boating stores

If you lived close to me I would give you a couple. I walk the shoreline in the spring before the lakes fill up and pick up all kinds of anchors. This year picked up 2 of your navy type anchors. One was brand new and still had the price tag on it. But wouldn't you know it I found them about a mile and a half from where I was parked. Ended up finding 7 anchors this years and couple of milk jugs with cement in them. I sure do love those crappies fisherman and the blow downs.

You might want to check out K Mart, our store carries them, and I think they run around 20 some dollars.
