Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

It was nice having lunch with you and Stacey yesterday.. We were glad we decided to go out because the sun ended up coming out and it was beautiful out. There was a lot of debris in the bay from all the rain..

The boat ran very well, but I need to try a different prop.. For some reason I'm only hitting 4100rpms and and a top speed of 42... I have a spare 17 pitch prop I'm going to throw on and see if that helps..

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

I was running a 14.5 x 19 pitch, but I was only hitting 4100 rpms at wot and topping out at 42mph. I talked to the head mechanic at Tomes and he told me I need a 15x17 pitch. That only gives me a top speed of 35 and 4900 rpms at wot. A lot of people online are suggesting I go with a 14.25 x 19p. The smaller diameter should allow me to get higher rpms, but being a 19p I should hit 45mph.. All I'm looking for is 45mph and 4600 rpms.. The other possibility is that my 14.5x19p prop was fouled up, it appeared fine, but maybe something is wrong with it.. The mechanic at Tomes told me its probably time to get a valve job on my engine which would cost at least 2k and for that price I could buy a rebuild long block. If this new prop doesn't solve the problem I will have my compression checked and if it isn't good I'm going to buy a different boat.. I would rather trade my boat in, and put the 2-3k that I would be spending on a valve job down on a newer boat.

It's frustrating though because last year it ran 45mph all day long and rpms were right where they should be.. So I'm really hoping the 14.25x19p prop works...

We will be at Llyod's Sunday and probably camping out Sunday night and heading home Monday.. Can't wait to hang out! Hopefully a fight doesn't almost break out with other boaters.. haha..

Haha.. I know!! You're boat was always bigger and now it's faster too, and you got a much better deal on yours!!

Is anyone going to be out on Sunday??? Ashley and I will be out, hopefully we will get to do some tubing and skiing Sunday..
We will probably be meeting up with Nick(Maxum2400sc) and Kari at the Bohemia, anyone else is more than welcome to join in!!!

We're going to take our chances.. They're not calling for rain until 6pm and even then it's only a 30% chance.. Last year there was at least a dozen times we headed out when rain was in the forecast and every time it turned out to be a beautiful day..

It's next weekend that has me concerned... :(

So how did the CG boarding go Andrew?

We were going to go out, but Stacey wasn't feeling good today. I did start the boat. I need manifolds and risers, I had to fill up my closed cooling system. I used a stop leak so I can make at least a few trips out, but I need to do the manifolds soon. PRICEY buggers!

I made it out for a few with the family on Sunday. We ran over to Chesapeake City to get some ice cream, but that little shop right on the park doesn't sell ice cream anymore.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

I am backing up and heading to Rays town lake and taking the boat. I never took the boat to a lake before so this will be a first. I just finished fixing the trailer I somehow broke a piviot arm on the ezloader trailer. nothing easy about replacing it. The changed the arms and dont make the low U profile arm they made in 1986. The new arms have a much larger U bend that raised the boat too high on the one side that the other side wouldnt reach the boat. I had to shim the other side up an 11/4 because the new arm I had them send to match the other arm will not get here till after we leave. I have spent hours under the boat and I didnt even get a chance to paint the bottom yet. But do or die I am taking this boat. Anyone else been to Raystown lake? Any advise? I do not have a chart and I dont think my chart plotter works on fresh water.

I've been to the lake Damifudo but only on a small section in a canoe. I hope to get there this year with the boat. There's a pretty active Raystown thread here.

Might try to make it to Lloyds. Been past it a few times, but never stopped in.
