Yeah Stan should be around as well. I was thinking HdG fireworks this year. We've been to the northeast ones 2 years in a row now.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

FINALLY splashed the 'ol gal this evening! Took her out for a short shakedown cruise down to Turkey Point and back with the new prop. Unfortunately, the old gas in her caused a nasty case of detonation when I tried to open her up, even though I put 10 gallons of premium in her before taking off. :( I could open her up taking off, but once the engine hit about 3200rpm, the detonation started and I had to back out of the throttle. Tried to open up the secondaries, but no-go, big time detonation. So I settled for a nice cruise right at 3000 rpm with no detonation.

I'm not sure if that new 20' pitch 4 blade prop contributed to the problem or not, but it sure made a world of difference! Slow speed steering was much more responsive, espicially in reverse; and although it took a bit longer to get on plane, the old gal had a nice cruse speed of 30 mph @ 3000rpm while getting 3.2mpg! :p With the old 15" pitch prop she jumped on plane, but cruised at 25mph @3800rpm while getting 2.5mpg.

I am going to put an 18" pitch 4 blade prop that I have laying around on her until I burn the rest of the old gas out and add a couple of bottles of 104+ to help. Once I get the old gas out and put fresh in, it will be time to try a few WOT runs to see what prop I need.

Wingnutt, use Stabil in every tank, and put extra in for the winter. My gas is good as new.

Will you guys be at the NE or HdG fireworks? Do you know if Stan will be around that weekend? It would be nice to plan a raftup while you're around.
Anyone else interested?

I'm satying in Elk Neck State Park for the week as well. I guess I'll be bringing down the V-20. Hope to do some crabbing a day or two. Raft-up sounds good to me, but it's gotta be some place the kids can touch on a nice, sandy bottom. . . for my sanity if nothing else. Lime4x4 is hosting the Fourth festivities on his boat, so we'll be wherever he decides to take us, but it sounds like it's going to be Havre deGrace. Then Georgetown for the Fourth......haven't seen the boat parade yet, even though every year I swear that I'm going to.....

There's a nice sandy spot above the bridge on the Bohemia.
We are taking off that whole week, and have our slip reserved in HDG for the fireworks and beyond...

I'm thinking about taking a long weekend on the upper bay mid-July (with boat). Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay that has room to park a trailer? Small hotel or bed-and-breakfast preferred.

I stayed at the Ramada in Perryville, right off 95 and they had lots of room for my trailer so I could go out to dinner. It's cheap/clean and easy for us to get in and out of, and the Dennys in the parking lot helps for breakfast. I have heard great things about Great Oak Landing on the eastern shore and with their own marina I would hope they had parking for trailers. Also the Hyatt in Cambridge (if you wanted to explore a new area of the bay) is great, but expensive. D, how do you get to the bay now? I remember you putting in at Stemmers run. I was just curious about Middletown DE, the last time I was through there I was stuck in detours and construction. Have the cleared that area up this year?

I normally cross the Delaware Memorial bridge and come down 95. I've launched in Charlestown and Rogue's Harbor in Elkton. Charlestown's launch is OK; Rogue's Harbor is nice but weedy. I haven't yet made it to Stemmer's Run although it's on the list of places to try.

Change of plans, I am getting a new GM Performance smallblock for my boat, still aiming to be back on the water for the 4th. We are taking off that whole week, so we better be back on the water then, or my wife is going to kill me LOL.

Scott- I'm off that week too and should be around. If you need a boat for running around let me know- seriously! My Nova won't be ready but I've got others.....
Hey, what do you guys think about a weekday raftup?
Stan- "The Flats" are hard to beat in calm weather if you want shallow water with a sandy bottom. Do you know where I mean?

Rob, you're awesome! I should be good to go, but we'll see.
Are you going to be at the marina tomorrow? If so, we'll be up on the hill, having a cookout for my pop. Come on up and grab a burger!

I'm up for a weekday raftup, my schedule is flexible.

Yeah, I'll be there in the PM and stay onboard overnight (easier Monday commute to DC).
If the wx is good I'll be on the hook until later but THANKS for the invite!

did you consider camping on the sand islands?
Just put everything you need in the boat, and spend all weekend on the island. And go boating from there during the day.

I finally got it out of dry dock!

I'd camp there but my wife prefers a flush toilet and a hot shower. I don't think those things are available at the sand islands yet.

Try Anchor Marine in NE, it's 10 minutes off 95 I think it is still $10 a day. When you get off 95 and go through NE it's on your right just after the VFW. I tried Charlestown the first year and did not like it.

Weekday raftup is good with me that week...
These "the flats"....never heard of them but they sound interesting.....do they call it "the flats" because the water is all flat all the time? If so, it would be a good place to go.....but I don't know where it is so you probably have to give me a good map and some explicit directions......lol

Well congratulations!

And BTW, I think Rob was referring to a specific area of the flats, not the entire flats LOL.
