Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Well, I'll be onboard tomorrow thru probably next Fri or Sat. The rest of my family is working this weekend so I'll be a temporary bachelor. I monitor 16 and 09 --most of the time--.
I won't be online. Scott and Stan have my #, feel free to call or stop by.
Saturday afternoon I may be rafting with a 32 Marinette somewhere on the Northeast River or at The Flats, possibly staying on the hook overnight. Any of you guys feel free to come on over if you see us.
Of course, on Sunday I'll be watching the HdG fireworks at my slip. Maybe I'll cruise the crowd in my kayak. I'm guessing Lime wil have his 268?

If the wx holds out a couple of my dock neighbors are thinking about a cruise to Stillpond one day next week, nothing definite. I love that place, probably my favorite place on the Bay!

Brandon- I went to G-town about 8 or 9 years ago. The boat parade was pretty weak IMO but they had a great fireworks show. I went with a couple other boats and we anchored just west of Skipjack Cove's dock, near the shoreline in 3' depth (so the kids could splash around until it got dark). I thought that was the perfect spot- out of the channel, away from the big crowd, and in shallow water. Biggest issue we had was afterward- we waited 90 minutes after the fireworks ended before pulling anchor, and there were STILL a bunch of a-holes running around. Saw 2 big boats that were hard aground on sandbars, half of the boats weren't displaying proper lights, etc.

My advice to you (or anyone else going to see fireworks by boat): STAY PUT for the night, or at least wait for a couple hours to allow the crazies to get outta there!

Have a great holiday and STAY SAFE!

Rob,
call me, I was looking for your number and I think I lost yours when I rooted my phone.

Good news, we are on pier 6 on the T! Mike said they are putting 3 boats there, and that mine is the biggest, so we should have a ton of room.
I am splashing in a few hours!

Here's a video.

Rob - Thanks for the advice. I was figuring it would be a late night if we didn't stay over as I have heard there are a lot of boats there. I am with you, I would rather wait until almost everyone else has left before heading out myself. :)

Scott - Thats awesome! Glad to see the new engine in and fired up, I am sure that you are thrilled.

We will be out and monitoring channel 9/16 this weekend. I am sure we will stop by HDG at some point to say hi.

Have a great weekend everyone and be safe out there!!

You guys are killin' me. I won't be on the water until July 5th, and it'll be my old stomping grounds for a shakedown run at the Jersey Shore (since the boat is half way there and I am heading to my condo there starting Sunday - Thursday. My goal is to hit the C/D canal and the bay Friday and Saturday.

Enjoy the 4th.

Finally get to get out on the water this weekend, although it will be on my sis-in-law's jet skis. My boat is still in the shop, knuckleheads forgot to check if the lower unit was up before they went to move it and snapped most of the skeg off! I was hoping for a new outdrive, but they took it to a guy who does aluminum welding to get it fixed. I will be sure to document any leaks in case they tweaked anything else.

Anyway, with a little luck, the steering ram will be in Tuesday and I will pick the boat up Friday.

Scott, glad to hear the new engine is in and running good. BTW, do you post on a certain 4x4 board as ScottFJ40?

My sailboat does not have ac, and last year we tried to sleep on the boat on one of those 100 degree days, and at night it only got down to about 85.
that was torture. the inside of that boat was prob 100 degrees.

I was trying to sleep up on deck, where there was some sort of breeze.

I quess if you get tired enough you can sleep in any condition. Pirates slept in conditions like that.

Came into Baltimore Inner Harbor yesterday, I had a few internet connection difficulties at the marina but I finally got on this morning. Some pics from the cruise down, had great weather and good seas and Freelancer got us there safely. For me, this is what it's all about.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Odd question here... The wife and I will be towing our boat to the Bay tomorrow (Sunday) without kids. This will be only the second time we've been able to get away on our own without kids in our 6 years of being parents. We'll be putting in at Dundee Marina, she has an emotional attachment there as her dad and grandfather used to take her fishing there as a kid. My question is this, she would like a bottle of wine on the boat, can they sell beer and wine on Sundays in Baltimore County? If so is it only after noon like it is out here in Washington County? If it is possible, is there somewhere near the marina that sells? I'm a firefighter and I don't get off until tomorrow morning, and she doesn't want to pack the kids up by herself this afternoon for the family trip to the liquor store, so we're in a pickle.
Thanks for any help or advice!

Great pics freelancer.

butch9digits,
you can buy all the alcohol you want in Baltimore county on Sunday!
We've launched from Dundee too, I like going to Maxwell pt, we used to go a lot when I was a kid.

This would be the closest place I think. Probably 10 minutes or so away.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

I am thinking of taking the boat to the inner harbor for fireworks tonight. looking to launch at the canton. I have not done this before is there any advice from anyone that has watched the fire works from there boat at the inner harbor? We were at HDG last night for the fire works and got totaly messed up. We were enjoying crabs at a friends place and had the boat ready to go at Tidewater. A bit of rain and a threat of a thunder storm and people began to walk back and told us the fire works were cancelled to tommorow night. They has said the sherff's department has cancelled the fireworks due to a thunderstorm. We took the boat out and began to pick up the stuff from the party when they started to shoot off the fire works. The looked great but we have a very obstructed few between the trees. I was so disappointed because we had guest from California here and had promised them fireworks from the boat.

So now I am thinking about taking them tonight to the inner harbor to watch by boat. I have never watched from my own boat before so I am looking for some advice.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

I was depressed when I heard they "canceled" the show. I turned on my VHF and heard that the storm warning was canceled and the storm broke up.
We were on my boat at the T on pier 6, and Susky hose company boat cme by and told me they were shooting them off in 5 minutes.
I was elated then!
Sorry Damifudo, I heard others had their nights ruined too,

Jere's a ton of pics I took of the display from my helm.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Instead of making a new thread I thought I would just include it in here. I thought It would be a good idea to ask if people could share some of their favorite places by way of GPS coordinates. I think it would make it easier for people relatively new to the area find beaches\sandbars ect. What do you all think? I know I must be in danial because I have a Seadoo and come to the boating part of the forums instead of the PWC section, but hey I want to explore and have a good time too! It's just too bad I can't fit a grill on this thing because you guys have been making me jelous lol

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Hey guys I hope that your 4th was as enjoyable as mine was...I was firing on all cylinders and to top things off, my air conditioner didn't even freeze up. Got back yesterday around 2PM, took about 5-1/2 hours to Philly from Baltimore, average SOG 22.5 knots. Like glass the entire trip.

Bowman: you got to get AC in your boat...I went into debt to get mine, that's how important it is.

Skargo: I continued to have some connection issues and 1/2 of my Blackberry keyboard stopped working but the camera still worked so enjoy some more pics.

By the way, I got those crabs at the Rip Tide By The Bay in Fells Point...good eats

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Good to see you again Skargo, and meet you CaravelleCaptain! Sorry I couldn't spend more time chatting but 'ya know, I had an obligation to mingle with my Pier 6 neighbors for awhile....:)
I thought the fireworks show was great but some of my neighbors thought they were a bit shorter this year. Apparently the storm was bad in Conowingo, so I understand the concern by the officials. There would've been a WHOLE LOT of angry people in HdG if they had cancelled it because it turned out to be a beautiful evening.

Brandon was in town on Tuesday and stopped by for awhile. We chatted about another iboats raftup - any interest? I'd be up for something above Turkey Point.
As much as I'd like to spend some time at Stillpond or the Sass, my boat goes too slow to make it a daytrip.
