Excellent info! Now I am hungry and stuck at work. :)

If you think your hungry now, check out the menu. I ate there two years ago and I still remember the scallops.

Baring and further issues (blown seals on hydraulic cylinders, ready to fail seacocks, bad fuel ect.) We might try to run down to Lloyds this weekend. So far this year we've only been able to run down to Turkey point. Looking forward to meeting some of the upper chessy "crew".

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Second time down at the Bay. We are coming down the weekend of the 30th and would like to visit some of these places that everyone keeps talking about. We are staying near Carpentars Point. I have been to the flats before and would like to take a trip to sand island, turkey point, and whatever else anyone suggests. My question is where is sand island located? I have a 20 ft. bowrider that I will be taking down. We are looking for good spots to anchor out and just swim and stand. Thanks. Hopefully we get to see some people from this forum that weekend.

Are you putting in at Craft Haven? That was my Marina when I had the '23. If I could put the '32 there, I would go back in a heart beat.

I am open to a raft up anywhere near by, since I got the engines running right. She has more power than I have nerve. There is definitely some pucker factor running a 5 ton (nearly) flat bottomed beer can @ 33+ mph!. I haven't been to CJC in YEARS, but it's not a bad trip. Running out to the flats is a little hurtful on the wallet though.

I did find an AMAZING cove on the Elk. You have to have some cojones to get in, but once you are in, it is an amazing place to hang. May even stay overnight, and most of the weekend...

I cannot get google maps to let me make markers, but the lat/lon are 39.513576,-75.928831 (I'd post the name of the cove, but I like it being fairly quiet back there. I don't think the search engines will tag the coords.). The cove can get a bit skinny, but I can take the 32 through on low tide (Kicks mud on a really low tide). Follow midway between yellow range marker, and the point on the north/eastern end, directly to the coord. shown. on a mid to high tide you will have plenty of water. Worse comes to worse, it is a very soft bottom. Once you come around to the little point, you have A LOT of water. There is a VERY steep drop off to about 8ft of water.

This pic will give you some idea of how nice it is. The back of the boat is actually in deeper water than it looks since the drop off curves around...

We'll be camped out on sand island Saturday night and probably getting up early to ride down to Inner Harbor.

Trying to make it down Sunday for the afternoon but not looking so good. Have a wedding to be in tomorrow and commitments until 1pm on Sunday.

I will post here though if we end up making it out. Have fun out there and be safe.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

I'll be spending Saturday with Shane and "McKenna Renee" at his 'secret' cove with my 'ski. From the Elk Neck launch it's only a couple miles north.
Sunday I plan to be onboard "Winter Dream". Might venture out for a bit, but not for long because I gotta head to work by 4PM.

Hey Bill- Were you gassing up at Wawa routes 30 and 10 Friday about 5PM? I saw a boat just like yours!
Brandon- In for a raftup. Fairly flexible with a date but I'd prefer Saturday so overnighting could be considered.

Hi Shane,
I kind of know the cove you?re talking about. Did you find a sandy bottom? If so, exactly where at? On the back side of the point? Could you save the google image of the cove and use paint to mark your route into and where you beached at? We normally cruise up to the top of the bohemia but this would shave several miles off our cruise.

DBreskin,

Nice meeting you today. Hopefully, I'll have everything in order for the next little raft up. Man, Lloyd's filled up fast today.

The return trip went great until we entered our dock's no wake area and the float needle stuck open in the carb which totally flooded the engine. I had gas running out of the carb onto the hot engine. I let it cool for about 10 minutes, tapped the carb body a few times and re-fired the engine which ran perfect back to the ramp. Gonna have to pull the top of the carb off and check that needle and seat out this evening.

Launching out of DE City tomorrow and enjoying a canal run with wife and 3 out of 4 kids. Don't know how far into the Chessie I will get. What's a nice cove or place to hang out near the C&D Canal? I ain't making that long run to Georgetown down the Sassafras from DE City. Mucho bucks in fuel! $$$$ :)

Well if your looking for some place calm there's the bohemia river. If u go back past the bridge there is a nice sand bar people hang out at. Or u could just anchor in the main part of the bohemia

Great to meet you too. We had a little misfire as well; after you left we floated a while and when I tried to start the engine... nothing. Not even a click from the starter solenoid. Everything else was working OK so I knew the battery wasn't dead. I fiddled with all the wires, and then started asking neighboring boats for advice. I was pointed to a helpful guy named Dave (Thanks, Dave!) who suggested a bunch of possible electrical issues. Just when I was giving up and calling for a tow, Dave came over and suggested it might be the nuetral lock-out. I jiggle the shifter and the engine started right up! Dave was a lifesaver, and also saved me 4 hours of towing.

Good luck with your repairs. Gas flowing on a hot engine is a catastrophe waiting to happen.
