I had the boat out in that gale warning last sat night. I heard a pan-pan on the radio. Anyone hear about any boats sinking? It was nasty out there, 4 ft seas, blowing rain, and cold.

The shot they do have up looks pretty calm to me, though.

That was from last Monday, but usually that spot right there is pretty calm. I love checking the forecast, and then the cam before we go out, wish there were more cams out there.

welcome back..It has been scientifically proven , kidney stones are the result of not enough boating..

Thanks!

I bet being bounced around on a boat would have made that sucker come out quicker. :D

Anyone going out this weekend?

I won't be :( The boat is now winterized and I will be working both days. Just hoping that someone else might get out and enjoy it yet, maybe someone with an outboard. ;)

Sunday's looking pretty darn nice so I'm going to try to spend a few hours at the boat, maybe even going for a run. This really is a pleasant time to be on the water- at least when the sun's shining. The bridge enclosure will be going up and I'll start taking off perishables.
I've got a full winter cover and 2 slip de-icers but they won't be needed for awhile yet.
All my other toys are put away and winterized....

I winterized yesterday and the boat goes to indoor storage tomorrow.

Wait'll you guys hear what happened to me on the way in to work yesterday!!

I was towing the boat to work because that's where I was going to winterize it. I was stopped at an intersection where a farm road meets a county road when a truck and trailer comes along and wants to turn onto the road I'm on, but he's a pretty big rig so I check my mirrors and start backing up to give him room to make the turn. CRUNCH!!! There was a Jeep Cherokee tucked in so close behind me I couldn't see her. Two props to the grill and hood tore her up pretty good. Doesn't look like it did anything to the boat or outdrives, but I did have to scrape her plastic and paint out of my props. So...call the police and the insurance company. It was a great start to the day.

Stacey ALMOST had me talked into putting off winterizing till next week, since Sunday is looking nice, but I am sticking to my plan and winterizing it this weekend.

Hey Stan, sorry to hear abut your incident!

Stan - Sorry to hear about the bad news!! That really stinks. But I am glad to hear that no one was hurt. Thats the most important part!

Arks - Hope you enjoy the day this weekend! I will agree, it is a beautiful time of the year to be on the water!

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Yeah, it was BEA-EU-TEE-FUL out there today! One of the best days all year. Almost no wind and comfy temps. Are you guys jealous? :D The trees are still colorful but are quickly losing their leaves.
Anyway, I dropped a Franklin into the tanks (34 gallons), added some Sta-Bil, than ran down to Spesuite Island. Turned around, anchored off Sand Island and put up my bridge enclosure, which took over an hour.... that Strataglass is really stiff when cold. Fortunately, the sun warmed it up enough to enable me to snap and zip it all together.
I then cruised up the channel to Concord Point, where I stopped for lunch. Lots of people on the Promenade, but not many boats out. Grilled a couple burgers on the Magma, then scrubbed off the black streaks that always form on the sides of the flybridge.
Took a 'trawler cruise' thru the Havre de Grace waterfront, turned around at Tidewater Grill, where a helicopter was sitting on the grass next to the docks.
Goosed it up to 3300 RPM's for the run back home to make sure everything was OK (it was). Tied up about 4PM.
I sure hope we have a few more weekends like this one before the real cold temps arrive.

Stan-
What a bummer! TG for insurance.
I hope you told them it wasn't your fault because she was 'too close and inside your blind zone'!

Yeah, jealous would be a really good word!! But I am glad that you were able to get out and enjoy the day. I hope that you get a few more like them yet this year. Sounds like you had a great time, it is nice to relax on the water after the long work weeks!

Didn't even know that was an option, I just figured it was my fault for backing up into her. Ins. Co. called me and they are covering her 100% so nothing out of my pocket...at least until I get the next (higher, I'm sure) insurance bill. I just felt sooooo freaking stupid about it. I've been towing long distances for a long time and been incident free up to now. Can't say that anymore. It was a really horrible feeling when I realized what happened.

It didn't look like anything on the boat was hurt. It's in winter storage now until April. Tore that Jeep up pretty good though.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Hey I just found this Thread and looks like you all have a nice thing going. I am restoring my 1976 Manatee and I hope when I get this thing done in the spring I can get out and do a little more exploring of the upper bay. It would be nice to meet others from here. I grew up in Perryville so I knew the Upper bay and Flats area pretty well. I launch from the Dundee creek area most of the time now since I live in Baltimore.

This is my project if any of your might be interested in reading. This was of my best friends boat that I bought about 10 years ago. His parents bought it new for us to water ski and fish on when he and I turned 16. I think I drove it as much as he did if not more. 10 Years ago he sold it to me and I have taught 2 of my 3 kids to water ski on it and now I am fixing it up after the crash for the 10 year old to learn to water ski on. How many boat owners can say they taught there kids to ski on the same boat they learned how to ski. I hope one day to teach my grandchildren to ski on the same boat. That will really be something. Here is the link to the project. It also explains why I am in the project. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=361424

I have a few friends that I go boating with but always looking to meet up some more in our area. I smell a great rafting party one summer day on the flats. Or a large group to watch fire works with next year at HDG.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone here. Supernova the same thing happend to a friend with a horse trailer. I am glad the boat was not damaged. As you can see what happened to mine. Oh and by the way two of my cars and boat was damaged. The insurance company loved me!

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Welcome to the group Damifudo. My first suggestion would be to update your iboats profile with your location. Also, if you're on Facebook, skargo created a group on there for the upper Chesepeake area boaters. As you've read about in this thread a couple of the guys have gotten together a couple times for raft ups and we did have a fall foliage cruise planned but it got mostly rained out. We're hoping to do more next year.

I boat mainly on 2 areas of the Susquehanna (Lake Clarke and Conowingo) but would like to give the bay a try. A good friend of mine just moved into a new house in Pasadena, MD with water access. I intend to take advantage of that next year.
