Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

BWAHAHAHAHA, I give up. Did you even look at the previous pictures.

That IS flat for the Upper Bay man, sheez of whiz. I hope you hold on tight in that "chop" :p:D
Yeah, the very top picture is nice, but that is also at sunset, when the bay usually settles down. What about all your daytime shots where it''s rougher? It's not flat for the upper bay. It isn't a BAD day, but it isn't as smooth as I've seen it either. Try being out there at 6 a.m or even around 12 midnight or so, if a storm isn't brewing. Then you'll see smooth. We were out there Thursday before last and it was smoother than that. I know it isn't hang on for dear life chop, but it isn't "teach someone to waterski" smooth, either. I've been boating on the bay since '76 and spent many a summer out there fishing, crabbing and skiing. Not to mention cleaning up shoreline debris, etc. I think I've seen the bay at it's best and it's worst and your pictures show a reasonably calm day, given. But not my definition of calm and smooth. And I don't use qualifiers like "it's calm for the upper bay". It is either calm or it isn't. That's like saying "It's fast for a four-cylinder" Like I said, just a difference of opinion, no big deal and not worth arguing over. :)

That second picture you posted with the guy waterskiing, I can find on the Upper Bay just about any day...and in fact have many times. That is why I suggested teaching the young lady how to ski on the Bohemia. You just haven't come far enough out of Cara Cove to truly appreciate what all the Bay has to offer. :)

Who, when and where are going to Northeast and HVG fireworks this weekend?
PM me if you would like to give info on how to get in touch with you. This is my first time in the area and fairly new at boating. I am staying the whole week. Really forward to meeting new friends. Even Scott.:)

I'll be dropping in at Del City. Not sure what time yet. I would like to put in around noon, but I will have to see what time my wife wants to get started.

I just realized the Chesapeake City is having Fireworks Friday night. Assuming my work schedule agrees with my plans, I will be putting in at Del City by 7pm.

Why don't you use the ramps at Stemmer's run, it only cost you $5.00 and they have a great parking area and it's right across from Turkey Point Light House.
Look at all the gas you will save. I use it all the time.

Yeah, they shoot 'em from a barge anchored in the NE river about 1/2 mile below the no-wake zone. Last year a group of us literally had front row seats from our kayaks. Nice show.

To all: my current work project may severly impact my holiday weekend.
At this point I'm looking at the real possibility of working Saturday, Monday, and possibly even SUNDAY.
Ugh. I'll try to keep in touch....
One things for sure- after this job is done I'll be taking some MUCH needed 'ME' time on the boat.

No, they are on the 4th this year, which is Sunday, we are in the parade so you can take my word for it.

Hey gang, we're thinking about exploring the upper Chesapeake this Saturday (trailering from NJ). We'll possibly launch in Charlestown.

I'm looking for suggestions on where to launch and where to sightsee/relax. It'd be great to meet some of you if you're out Saturday.

I've just ordered a handheld VHF and expect to receive it Friday so I should be able to hail you.

I will probably be out in that vicinity, hail Twice as Nice on 16 or 9.
I love Cara Cove, which is just slightly south of Charlestown and on the eastern shore of The NE River.

There are so many cool spots around here, we're super lucky!

We will be down for the Holiday weekend too. I can't wait, I need a break from all the house renovations right now.

Should be down Friday night to Monday morning sometime. Plan on being on the boat as much as possible.

We will be at North East's and Havre De Grace's firework displays.

We will have the VHF with us and you can hail us as:

BoatName-1.jpg

Its not on the boat yet will hopefully be soon!

I normally monitor 16 and 9.

Hoping to meet up with a few of you guys this weekend!
