Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

i have a fresh water tank on my sailboat. and it forgot about it, and left it full. i drained it the other day. that would have broken something if it froze up this winter.

Kyle-
Are you leaving "Sinbad" in the water or having her hauled and blocked?
"Winter Dream" is staying wet.

Meh had a very busy year and saw the water all of 2 times! But I had to check in and see if Arks got arrested for that boat theft he posted a week or so ago :D

Next summer I need to run the tub up from Rock Hall or launch it at Lapidum and get with you guys...

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

I went out last Sunday to test out the new GPS chartplotter fishfinder from Garmin. My report is it is so nice to see where you are going and the depth levels and also all the cans and fishing spots. Now if it would only tell me what the fish are biting on and what fishing location they are at. I found an area in the bay where they dropped 70 of those fishing balls reefs called the Baltimore Memorial Reef.

I watched an amazing sun set driving back to Rocky Point park. I was all alone because the rest of the family had plans. Its a little tricky lauching and retrieving by yourself. The launch was no problem at all. I looked like a pro as I tied the boat off with lots of slack line and launched it by the old back in deep and hit the brakes and she slides right off the trailer. Ran and grabed the ropes and tied her off while I parked the truck ran back and I was underway in less than 5 Min.

The retrieve was a different story. I had the boat ready to get on the trailer when the person next to me was trying to put there 22 foot boat on the trailer without using his winch. His method was driving the boat up on the trailer. Raising the engine to full up and then gunning the big V 8 to push the boat all the way up on the trailer. He created so much turbulance he pushed my boat right off its rollers. I waited till he was done and out of their pushed my boat off the trailer and pulled it up again with no problem. I dont know why someone has to gun their motor to full speed at a ramp to load their boat on a trailer.

All in all it was a very beautiful day and dark by the time I was stapped down and pulling away. I have not winterized yet because I am hopeing to get one more fishing trip in over Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

Believe it or not, my uncle is still going out crabbing......he's going out on the Wye on Saturday. I was supposed to go with him, but I unfortunately have a funeral to attend......

I'm still not done with boating yet for the year, but I think at this point I need to get my canvas in better shape...lol

I know it's only December but I can't help asking...what's the earliest regular posters on this thread get back out in spring? Mid-April? Earlier?

April for me. I do have some improvements I want to make on the boat prior to the season though. Hopefully I'll get to them in March though and not hold myself up.

Hoping for the 1st "nice" weekend in April. This summer went way too fast. Unfortunatly, winter is going way to damn slow. And it's not even Christmas yet.

Was at Sassafras Harbor marina on 12/14 and things are starting to ice over. The travel lift pit was skimmed over and the boat we picked up turned into a hairy ice beard on the bottom. It is gonna be a long winter!:(

I wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and hope you all received lots of new Boating toys this year. I will be adding some tunes to the boat as my son gave me a stereo to install on the boat.

I now will be rocking on the water in more ways than one!

Merry Christmas and the Days are getting longer now soon it will be spring! Ok well thats the thought I am holding on to at this point.

My wife and I and some friends will be out on the upper bay Friday night. We'll be on the Lantern Queen for NYE dinner, we went last year and it was nice.

My dad got me a very nice fishfinder. Probably nicer than I would have bought myself. However, I'm considering trading it for a combo GPS unit.

Have a Safe & Happy New Year EVERYONE!

Is it spring yet!
(I have two motors and boats to prep) One boat to restore and both motors need work, one with a dead #2 cylinder ('73 - 65hp evin) & bad head gaskets and head ('60 - 60hp Gale). I need warmer weather since moist of the boat work will need to be done outside :-(... motors I can bring in.

Take care
