Re: ***attention hdg basin silted in***

Sunday was a great day! The daughter and grand-daughter had a nice time. We went up the elk to the Bohemia and then beached at a small cove about 1/2 mile from the bridge on the north side. played in the water a bit and had a nice picnic, (albeit WaWa).

I did hit one small log or 2x4 partly submerged that tweeked the prop for me so I guess it's off to the prop doctor!

We might have gone to the Inn but since it was the girls first time out I thought it better to be closer to Rogues :-( The priceless grins from Hannah (4y.o) made it all better :)

We are still on to make the fall colors tour at least for a few miles... hopefully my early x-mas present (VHF radio) will be here. What channel? I think I saw something about 16 for hailing. I have to ask I never used one before.

Take care, Scott & Dot

Yeah, it was a perfect weekend to be out!
I checked the marina entrance channel and yup, between the second set of bouys I found only 2.9' at the deepest, and that was 1 hour before low tide. Yikes.

Lots of big-boat traffic were running the back channel all weekend, not to mention the 'regular' knukleheads who run aground because they can't figure out the channel markers. :)

Brandon- did you see these?

I looked at one of those Trojan 33's when shopping and they're NICE.
If it's OK mechanically that's a LOT of boat for the $$....

Scott & Dot - Glad to hear that you guys had a great time. I always enjoy having little ones out on the boat with me, maybe because they aren't mine, lol. It is just a lot of fun to introduce new people to the wonderful world of boating!!!

As far as the VHF goes, Boat US has a good tutorial located here:
http://www.boatus.com/foundation/dsc/player.html

Rob - Thanks for the links, i am looking at anything and everything remotely close to here. I have seen all of the ones that you posted and was tempted by several of them. I especially like that Trojan 33 that you mentioned. Looks fully loaded too, genny, etc. I would love to look at that, but I think my budget is going to be around 5k including getting it to HDG. But keep them coming, never know when the right one will come along.

I really like ones with a large flybridge, like the Carver 28 Mariner/Voyager's but would really like to find something in the 32' - 34' range.

All this talk about big boats is making me envious! Maybe it will motivate me...

That was an intersting link... I heard of DSC radio but never knew what it really was. That'll be the ticket for me. A good radio and GPS can always upgrade to a newer boat. Keeping our fingers crossed for nice weather on the 23rd! We are really enjoying boating and camping With a cruiser as in the links above we could do both at the same time!

$500 for a cruiser! How much is a rebuilt motor??? Nevermind I have toooo many hunny do's (this winter anyway!):)

The Silver Eagle has been winterized and waiting for us to cover it up for the winter.I was going to do it tomorrow until I found out about the rains ,so I guess I will do it on Thursday. Two weekends ago I was at a car show in WildWood NJ. It was an all Chrysler event. My cruiser got best in show.I struck out at Endless Sumer the week after.

Bad luck

Bad luck

I may not make the Fall Colors Run; my tow vehicle is in for repair. It needs a new rear main seal. Thankfully it's under warranty.

They have to order the part and it doesn't arrive until Friday. $5 part and probably $1000 labor.

Borrow a truck! Don't miss the last get together of the season! Was it leaking badly?
I don't know anyone with a vehicle rated to tow my boat.
It wasn't leaking badly, but I didn't want it to blow out while I was in the midst of a long tow. The dealer has promised to have it back to me by Saturday.
If I can't bring my boat, I'll hitch a ride with one of you!:D

Last get together? What happened to Shane's idea of boating all year round? I just got new batteries for my heated underwear.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Scarab is now..... Winterized.

Arrr, me first year on the Upper Chessie is rich with memories, and yet I've not met any of you characters -- go figure! :p Still, was good to get advice from everyone on here about everything from the Delaware City ramp, all the way down to St Micheal's (Kent Narrows Ramp). I've launched, lunched and lounged all over, enjoying the canal, The Inn, the Bohemia and Sassafras. I've even been all the way down to the Lower Chessie (St Chucks).

Seriously... I would not have enjoyed the area as much as I did w/out advice here and a drib or drab of info and advice via the facebook group.

After a lifetime of boating Cape May County, NJ, I can tell you we have a gem around here called the Upper Chesapeake. You guys are great. Other local support is great, too. My faith in people has been reborn. I've grown tired of the attitudes and ignorance that I've grown up with (Philly boy who vacationed at the Joisy Shore). I love this area (DE, MD); the people are great. I'm all over between Elkton, Newark, Bear, Middletown, Wilmington and Philly. If you ever see a Stone Grey Dodge Ram with a Scarab Logo, give me a honk. :p

The Scarab is sitting over at Dimarco's marine and I will pull her home within a few days, where I will watch snow pile up on 'er and I'll make engine noises in my head and try to feel the warmth again. I am knee deep building out a fourth bedroom for my daughter; she's the priority right now. Might make a Striper trip somewhere between now and the hard freezes with some buddies on their fishin' rigs. :)

I have my brain around selling the Scarab. I intend to replace her with something more modern -- maybe something like a Baja Islander. The wife and kids dig the open bow and we'd like something a touch newer. Trying to figure out the best approach to selling 'er. Someone is gonna get a steal when they buy it. I've spared no expense. Any takers? Haha. Any suggestions on how to sell 'er? Always appreciate the input 'round here!

Thanks!

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

its easy to say your going to boat all winter now. Just wait till it's 20 degrees and snowing. The boat will be the last thing on your mind.

I'm gonna take my sailboat up to hdg marina today. I'm gonna have them pull it out, but i may keep it in the water there for a few weeks first.

It's even easier if you plan to ride on someone else's boat when the weather turns cold. Mine is getting (and staying) winterized after this weekend.

My Trojan F30 is there until Tuesday, then I'm having it shipped to my house.
