Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

I thought the island slip rates are half of the regulars, which are now $55/ ft.
The guy I bought hard Crab from said he paid $315 for the year for an island slip! Sounds cheap for a reason. I know one thing, it's December and I haven't done much to Hard Crab, or Twice as Nice yet...

unless the police are called. :)

Now you have my interest peaked! Whats the story here, does that happen often? Inquiring minds want to know :D

Thank You! It's been a few weeks, so I appreciate the "eyes".

Your welcome, more than happy to swing by! We actually have a big install about to begin in Perryville later this month so I will be down more often over the next few months!

Believe it or not, that is the original 1989 canvas from Sea Ray!

Wow! That's impressive. I would like to get some made up similar to that and how you have "Winter Dream" set up. I have a full enclosure for the bridge but all of the isinglass would need to be replaced to see through it! I would like to do the bridge canvas and cockpit pit the same as you. However, my bridge deck doesn't extend back over the cockpit at all. Do you have any recommendations of who to call this spring for some pricing?

Don't worry- the island piers aren't as new as the main piers, but IMO they're perfectly safe in normal conditions. In a really BIG blow (-like Irene-) just deploy anchors like I did.
But I DO think Mike is correct as far as the 'aggravation factor'- I wouldn't want to dinghy out to the boat every time...BUT it'll certainly work until you're able to get a regular slip. Also, you're not going to find a slip anywhere nearby for that price.

Thanks Rob. That's what I was hoping to hear. I definitely don't want to be out there forever but thought it might be good for 1 year if I cant get into a permanent slip this year. The permanent slip is the ultimate goal of course as I agree getting out to the island slips would be a big pain! But I think it would be justified for one year anyway. Thanks for your thoughts!

What about Northest Isles, Brandon?

Well, that maybe a possibility. All of the slips there are owned by individual condo owners. Some of them are for sale but they are asking 30k+ for them so that's not going to happen. Some are advertising that they will rent it out but I haven't called to ask pricing yet. I just think that HDG might be more of a central location for the areas that we want to hang out at. Thanks for the thought though! We'll see what happens!

Wow. That's a lot less than half price, and as cheap as you'll find anywhere on the Bay- well, except for a home-made mooring. One thing however- there's always more bird crap on the island dock because there's so little human activity.
I know one thing, it's December and I haven't done much to Hard Crab, or Twice as Nice yet...
Gotta tell you, I find it REALLY hard to work on a boat when it's below freezing!

Well, pier 6 is well known as the 'Party Pier', and I don't mean wine and cheese (THAT would be pier 1).;) We have the old alcohol-fueled argument a couple times per year. This summer I heard LE was investigating some less-than-legal activity from a livaboard. Also, I called the PD back in 2007 because somebody jacked 60 gallons out of my tanks. Other than that, it's like heaven here....:)

Sure- the guy next to Tranquility does canvas - name is Glenn and has a SeaRay 310 express with green canvas and a For Sale sign. I'm waiting for him to make me a new cockpit cover for the Wellcraft. His # is on the sign.

Here's a couple others. Don't know much about them!

My covers were made by Canvas Shop on Wheels in Darlington- Dot and Dave. As you can see their work is very good but can be pricey. When shopping, I got 3 prices and negotiated the price down about 10% from their original number. Here's their info and my review: http://local.yahoo.com/info-12535079-canvas-shop-on-wheels-darlington

I agree 100%.
There's a LOT of good options within 5 or 10 miles, which is important to owners like us with big, slow, thirsty boats!:)

Hey Stan- I thought you fell off the face of the earth. Great to hear from you!
I was thinking maybe you got out of boating.
MAJOR props for doing the water rescue stuff. That's some tough duty, but VERY rewarding.
Here's Station 72's site. Great pics and info:

Thanks Arks. No I didn't get out of boating, just got busy and poor at the same time. I guess it works out; I couldn't afford to do something I didn't have the time for anyway....or is it vice-versa? I didn't have the time to do something I couldn't afford anway.....whatever. That website is a bit old and not kept very up-to-date. Our Facebook page is a little better.

I do have to admit that the wetsuits are nice, but the insulated drysuits REALLY kick-butt.

Anyway, I am seriously considering selling my Nova III for a mere pittance. Nothing wrong with it, just don't have the time for it and really could use the money. I'm thinking 6k for the boat and trailer if any of you think you might know someone who might be interested in a very good boating deal.

"Winter Dream" is looking just fine on this beautiful day at the Bay. Man how I wish I was out on the water instead of in a vehicle! The upper bay is as flat as it could be!

I ate breakfast at Fell's Point in Baltimore today, the water was placid there too today.

I'm sure glad SOMEBODY is enjoying her- even if it's just looking at her!
Haven't been there in a month.

Scott- maybe you could start a Wellcraft fleet.
I can tell you first-hand that you CAN"T have too many boats! :)

We will be down again for a week in july. Were getting a cabin again at elk neck state park for the week. I was thinking of maybe wet slipping my boat for the week. Are there any marinia's in the area of elk neck? taking the boat in and out of the water is a pain sometimes

Maybe check with Jackson and see what their transients go for? That's on the Northeast river side. Nice people there, at least in the parts department!

Baltimore boat show

Is anyone thinking about going to the Baltimore Boat show January 19-22? If so, maybe we could organize a group trip and get discounted tickets.

Bay boat works is also on the NE. I have a friend with a boat there year round and likes it. I have no idea about the cost for a week, but it was $10/day to use the ramp and they let me leave the boat/trailer there overnight a few weekends. There is also Mcdaniel Yacht basin, I have no info on them, but the location is right off Turkey point road.

It's been a good boat and is at home on the bay in just about any water condition. Makes short work of the run from NE to Lloyd's or the Inn, heck even the going to the Delaware Bay is only a short hop in it. Annapolis and Baltimore would be within easy reach as well. It's also prime for a quick profit in the right market. Come spring I'll probably change my mind but right now it could go.
