What do you think, does that warrant "professional help"?

Re: Boating Withdrawal Symptoms

Last year is the first time we did not go to Big Mac in a decade I think due to the water levels, we really enjoy camping on the beach and we have a big enough crowd to keep things controlled, I don't think we have had a problem there in 6 years (kids blasting down the beach at 2 am) Where is Meredith? I have a friend that wants us to go to Sterling next summer, about the same size as Jackson just a little bit further.

You just need a real aluminum boat. A couple weeks ago we took the boat out to go deer hunting on a remote island. We broke through 1/2" ice on the bay for 3 miles going out and coming in. I can't even describe the sound (not to mention the feeling of empowerment) that you get driving a 1/4" plate hull through hard water at 15 knots. It's pretty cool watching the "spray" of broken ice fly up and slide across the top of the frozen bay. Not something to be done with a riveted or fiberglass hull though.

It would take a hell of a hull to break through the 2 feet we're going to have pretty quick! That does sound pretty die hard, and fun though.

Not sure if it cures withdrawal symptoms but I just spent an hour working on the snow blower. 13+ inches of snow will make me forget about the boat, at least for the weekend.

Peter, That is a different type of boating ailment, see we all have our own boats. Mother nature is actually the one to blame for this as she flips the tables on us every year.

I wonder if there is an attorney we could contact to file a class action suit against mother nature and her sinister ways. Maybe we could even be awarded damages for pain and suffering or emotional distress, then we could use the money to complete our water toy projects.

hmmmmmmm

Re: Boating Withdrawal Symptoms

Funny I came across this thread today. I had a sales call at a year round lake house where I do most of my boating yesterday & I was looking at the water (not quite frozen yet), thinking "It's not that cold" (21 degrees). It kills me because I was planning on doing a complete deck rip out/ replacement during the winter, but due to a broken leg I lost the time to move my GTO to another location so the boat could fit into the garage. I guess I'll have to get an early jump on the job in the spring. I wanna be the first boat on the lake in the spring. OK, I'm done..

Re: Boating Withdrawal Symptoms

I think I may have found a way to temporarily stave off the withdrawals, Rapala Fishing on my Playstation, but I know this can only hold it off for so long.

I know the quote was a different kind of sickness than withdrawal but I love that quote. I just had to toss it in.

Move to the Pacific Northwest. Then you can use your boat year round, as long as you don't mind the rain.

Re: Boating Withdrawal Symptoms

I have terrible boat withdrawals every winter. So, I bought a Jeep years ago.

When I see this:

I go do this:

Not really a cure, but it is good therapy. It helps a little bit.:D

Sounds like a great idea. Makes me think why not move the t.v. and play station out into the boat. Go for that more realistic feeling.
I know sick. Huh

Re: Boating Withdrawal Symptoms

i don't know if you can call it withdrawl but the other day i was going down the road and went to stop for a red light. The car started to go sideways so i cut the wheel hard to port with my left hand and was reaching for the throttle with my right to pop it in reverse before i realized that i was actually skidding and not pulling in to a dock.

We just got 4 feet of snow in 4 days! Summer is looking a long way off. The withdrawals are hitting hard.

I had an Arctic Cat before, we didn't get hardly any snow for about 4 years so I got rid of it with 12 miles on it, I'll be playing in the snow soon enough when I head out in the semi tomorrow morning.

Re: Boating Withdrawal Symptoms

Some fella from back east scribbled this down a while back. I reckon little has changed since then:

Call me Ishmael. Some years ago-never mind how long precisely-having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and regulating the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people's hats off-then, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Cato throws himself upon his sword; I quietly take to the ship. There is nothing surprising in this. If they but knew it, almost all men in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same feelings towards the ocean with me.
