Re: boats and city ordinance

We have a lot of new neighborhoods around here with a ton of covenants, most are ridiculous. I know someone who purchased a house in one of these neighborhoods. They specifically asked the realtor if they can park a boat in their driveway. Realtor said yes. 11 years down the pike, the neighborhood nazis inform them of the covenant and said they gotta move it. They freak, the case is in arbitration in circuit court.
I had two suggestions. One - park it on the street. Trailer is tagged and legal, so no cop is gonna ticket or tow it. There is no law governing this situation (of course the neighborhood had this covered, but too bad). Two - there were no covenants about lawn ornaments. I would have put it in the front yard just to **** them off.
Food for thought.

I like the "Lawn Ornament" idea. We have a carhenge which someone built here:

Plus some planted campers:

Why not a Boathenge or something similar? I say give them something to really complain about.

A buddy of mine just went through an ordeal with a neighbor complaining about his dog barking and his horses smelling up the neighborhood. He lives on a farm which until a neighbor sold to a developer, was 10 acres away on the other side some woods from any other houses. The 'new' neighbors, who built next to a horse farm are the ones complaining. After several trips to court to defend his way of life, the judge ruled in his favor saying that his original agricultural zoning stands and so long as he properly cares for and houses farm animals, there's nothing they can do about it. The neighbors complained about the smell of his farm ruining their enjoyment of the 'Rural Experience' and appealed the decision several times but it was thrown out each time.
He has now added about 100 pigs on the development side of the property to enhance their 'Rural Experience' to the fullest.

I absolutely love this. There is nothing I hate more than people who move into a known situation and make themselves a pain.

I have seen farmers lose to new neighbors here in Maryland.
I wonder if it has anything to do the the fact that 42% of County revenues are from property taxes...R5 commands significantly more $$$ than farm acreage.
And you wonder why the small american farm is almost extinct (at least around here).
Go figure

I understand your frustration with this issue & personally it seems like it's BS to me. You should be able to keep it on your property as long as it's not an eyesore or hazzard.

With that said, Here where I live in Las Vegas, The illegal aliens park cars, trucks, trailers, boats & anything else they can find right in their front yards & it looks like crap! I complain to the city constantly & it falls on deaf ears. Even though they are violating the laws, the enforcement is very weak.

Even though your issue seems to be BS & unfair, at least they enforce the laws there.
