NW - You're driving around with a 2 line fuel tank containing fuel and vapor pressurized to 7psi directly connected to an ignition source. I have seen those tops blow off - it's no small event, so we can't have you leading the "Against" crowd.;).

Jim, Now I know why you have so many boats...no one will invite you and your Attorney on board... and I mean that purely in jest.

I think this topic has more than run its course - at least from what I'm willing to contribute - so I'll sign off on this one.

Sue happy America (WOW). 5HP over the rated boat specs. get real.Might cause some serious problems (you got to be kidding me).Just maybe if I got into an accident and come to find out I have 5Hp more than I should caused all this???Maybe I dont need a boat.Do what you want, hang whatever you want off the end of your boat and be responsible when operating it.This is such an over disscused no end topic.

Here comes the hysteria... You are quoting a boating safety course - NOT law. From the Coast Guard personnel that I have spoken with - the LAW applies to manufacturer requirements, etc.. I really don't have the time to go through this.

States are welcomed to write more stringent regulations, and some do.

I'm not hysterical, guy had a question & I had already done some research on the topic, so I c&p'd it. I also have some engineering experience - and I know that just 'cause it'll probably be fine and it's unlikely anything *bad* will happen, somebody did a lot of math to figure out what the hull could handle, likely added a little safety factor and that's what the hull is designed for - IF the folks who built it followed the plans exactly, to the letter, didn't make any omissions or inferior substitutions during the construction...and so on and so forth....

Then why are you discussing it? "Hanging whatever you want off the end of your boat and being responsible" are two concepts that are mutually exclusive. No question the conversation has left the reservation, but the fact remains that SIGNIFICANT overpowering is not safe. That is not a debatable opinion, nor is it hysteria. It is a fact.
