Wow! Time to double up the lines and throw out a couple extra fenders!

That is a pretty good sized storm moving up the east coast.
We had areas with over 20 inches of rain from it.

Make sure your bilge pump is working, and your batteries are charged! Good luck!

Neighbor pulled his boat. Goodness. My marina looks like that everyday. I use 8 lines to tie my boat. 2 bows, 2 sterns, 2 fwd srpings and 2 aft springs. When storms come I have to double all the lines (16 in all) and hang on for dear life. We frequently get 1-2 ft swells roll through the marina. There is a ferry terminal just north of my marina and the wakes from the ferries alone (particularly the high speed ferries) will send you for a ride. The boat rocks so hard the reverse chines bang. Boats frequently sink at the dock in my marina from being improperly tied.

Admitedly, i did pull my boat for Earl. I was very frustrated when it became a non-event.

I live in Harford Co., MD. We got somewhere between 8-10 inches of rain from this system. On top of that we had tides running about 2' above average. I stayed on my boat last night to tend lines since the high tide was around 3:00 am this morning. Water was 8" above the piers at 11:00 pm last night. Definitely had to keep and eye on the lines to ensure boat stayed well posisitoned in the slip. I have a 35' Carver Aft-cabin.

WOW!

Couldn't imagine having to deal with that every day, then extra for a storm!

We have it easy on the River/Lake... dry dock year-round. If it's raining too hard, we make sure to get her in before the marina closes.

Happy boating :)

Re: Boats were rocking and rolling at the dock just now!

we had the wind and rain but not the tides. 25 with gusts to 35 (recorded at the mouth of my river). Mine is moored at the house, facing west and bow out from shore. These winds were SW, W and now going to NW.
Our worst storms here are northeasters but my cove is sheltered from the wind so you could waterski while across the creek it's 3' rollers. I just let line out for the tide. Hurricanes, when the wind will be coming in, I pull the boat.

This photo is my boat and pier at the top of the tide at the November northeaster. The gazebo is about 30' from the bulkhead (shore) and the rest of the water is covering the yard. This was a big tide, but I've seen it before several times, less many times, and worse a couple of times. But note how peaceful calm it seems! Picture 45 mph winds coming at you--a whole 'nother story.

I spent about an hour tying my boat all down. The wind and waves were coming from the right side of the boat during the height of the storm

What a mess! Good job on all those lines and using the double slip; it payed off big-time.

Yea, I don't know why but some people think lines should always be 100% taught.

After many years on the ocean I've learned a few things about docks and boating. The first being that you never want your lines 100% tight working against each other.

Looks like someone's bayliner is about to sink (not yours).
What chewed up the pier--a bow eye?

I saw one sunk sailboat this morning, about 27'. Not its first time; it's project that's been waiting to be fixed for a few years now. Ducks nest in it.

Wow that is a mess...

Hopefully get a report back on my boat shortly. Wasn't able to get there, and hope things weren't as bad in the river.
