boggie board/surfing behind boat

Hi all,
I have a couple nephews that grew up by the ocean and are into body boarding and surfing. The kids are staying with us this summer and we are just 20 minutes away from the lake, but three hours from the ocean. We introduce them to tubing, but they were soon bored. The kids ask me what if we were to tie a boggie board or short surfboard behind and pull them (same setup as tubing). I have a inboard/outboard, so I can't have them "wake surfing" behind the boat. I'm curious if anyone has tried these techniques. If we made a latch/hook of sort and tied the tow rope to the boggie board, we were wondering the kid can steer using his body weight and feet? In addition, do you think a surfer can stand and his surfboard? I would image it would work, what do you think? I think this project will keep the kids busy for the rest of the summer.

Yeppers on the standing up on a surfboard... Done it several times on anything from a longboard (hung 5, went for 10 and bit it) :D , to a shortboard, and even stood up on kneeboards as well.. Use a standard tow line and handle, and keep the speed down to 15-18 mph (more or less, depending on the boards surface area)..

Done the boogie board thing too... Steering is the same... Body weight..

In either event, I would'nt try to tie the rope directly to the board...

i've done both of those. depending on the shape and size of the boogy board, you might need to go a little slower. they don't have fins and can get squirrely going too fast.

the surfboard will work but they might not like it behind the boat as much. it's not too similar to the real deal. going slower, with an inboard, is much closer cause you can let go of the rope. do what you can and be careful.

they might enjoy wakeskating, same thing as wakeboarding but no bindings. if you have a local board shop, you can probably rent one for the weekend. the skate will allow you to go faster and still give the rider good control.

on a skate, your rider can be further back away from the prop too. with the other 2, you have to go slower and the rider gets a sinking sensation and workout if you don't pull them in closer....imo

I am not sure what this means, but that is exactly what your nephews are going to want to do . . .

I agree with Snapper. Definitely do NOT attach to the board(s). They will have to start on their belly holding the ski handle, just like a knee boarder and then work their way up to standing. If they keep the handle aligned with the front of the board it will stay reasonably straight, they will figure out real quickly when they move the handle away from center! Once they get stable, standing will not be too tough, but staying up will take some work . . . My experience is that they will try standing with both the Boogie Board and the surfboard. remind them to cover their heads if they go down, especially with the surfboard. It is amazing how those things find their way back at you . . .

Also, I would rent them a wakeboard. They will soon want to "Get Air" and will need bindings for that.

the possibilities are endless! no need for boredom. When I was a teen, we spent many hours at the lake trying to find the funnest/most unusual thing to do behind a boat... I started a list, but decided to post it under "stupid human tricks". Somehow it seemed more appropriate there.

I would certainly recommend wakeboarding. Me and my friend(from Hawaii, a surfer) recently started wakeboarding, and he certainly does like it alot. He'd rather be surfing in Hawaii, but wakeboarding is plenty fun to make up for it a bit. And depending on your position(they make adjustable wakeboard ropes), you can surf the wake.
