Hello everyone, First, thanks in advance for help in solving my problem
I need ya'lls help!
I have a 1997 Merc 4.3 with an Alpha 1. Last year I had a problem with cold starts on my boat. The first start of the day it would take an extended time to start but would eventually start. Once in the water I would let it idle for about 5 minutes then drive off slowly. While idleing through the no wake zone it ran fine. However, once outside the wake I would throttle up and it would bogg down and almost cut out, but never died and ran fine after that. Then a couple times on the last day out it died when I throttled back to pick up my skier. It started right back up and would idle fine.
I had the boat winterized at my local boat shop for the winter and he said he noiticed it was runnign rough.
This year I unwinterized the boat, pulled all the plugs and changed them. The plugs that came out looked pretty good; no white spots, no oil, not wet, and not too far out of gap. The plug wires look great and the ditributor cap does as well. The boat started after putting a little gas in the carb and it ran about 10 seconds then died. I cranked it and it started again and would die. This repeadely happened. I would try to throttle only it up and it would do the same. I let it sit for about 5 miuntes while I was checking hte choke and then I started it, it ran for about 45 seconds, the died. I pulled the oil/water seperator and it had fuel in it and it looked fine. I started it and aging it ran about 45 seconds and died, I'm thinking carb??????????
But ya'll have more experience than I, so please help me figure this out.!!!
